His guide business harvests less than 1,000 teal a year. The state of Louisiana harvests over 150,000 teal a year and over 2 million ducks total. If that makes sense.

Thanks for clearing up your statement.  So what is the daily limit down there?

Got some snows and ross geese to actually decoy today which for me is rare they actually get within 40 yards. 2 hours to set the spread up and brush the blind only to have someone set up 400 yards down wind 30 mins before shooting who didn't have permission. If not for them would have been a lot better

I thought you only ran into A-holes like that in ND?  Maybe they moved north too.

The Sandhills might be migrating already?

Saturday was out last day hunting in SD but the first day I saw or heard any Sandhills while I was glassing an area.  I had a flock of 50+ fly over way high and then a little later a flock of over 100 landed in a field off to left of this pic.

Most of the Sandhills were gone from northern saskatchewan where we were. They migrate early.

In that spot, they were the most likely ones to show, second only to antelope.  The area behind had both, but was a better chance of seeing whitetails.

Muleys way outnumbered whitetails on that trip and very few adult bucks of either type were seen.  We could take either with our archery tags.  We took none.  One of the guys missed a whitetail buck on Saturday morning.  54 yards, jumped the string, is what I heard.  I was about a mile away when that went down.

I grill crane, ducks and geese i bring it to a butcher and they make it into meat sticks. I also will shred the duck and goose meat in a crock pot with barbacoa sauce and make tacos with them.

I grill crane,

can you share some pics of the ribeye of the sky after its prepared?

I really want to try the meat some time and hunt them as well. Is the term falling lawn chair still accurate when you bring one down? lol

Pass shoot them between roost and fields, typically farthest shot 40 yards. They don't fly high.

I will when I get home and grill them. Yea, they fold up pretty easy, not hearty birds!

I've never tried it either but I would given a chance myself too.  I've heard the term "ribeye of the sky" but I'm very skeptical of that.

That's ok, got the Bear hunting out of my system years ago.  Still have some good spots on the GPS up in the Arrow head!  Did love me some good greasy bear roasts though!  😋

Yes, I'm on the West End.  No crappies yet, but I caught a couple of Cisco's and some perch this morning. Been dealing with chores at the cabin since 10 AM, so not much fishing.

10 inches of snow in cook this morning. 53 was pretty messy
    • CigarGuy
Hard to tell exactly how much snow the way the wind was blowing it around, close to that I'll bet!  3 sleds went by earlier. Brian, are you on the west end? Did you fish?  Catch any crappies?
    • Brianf.
I was on the lake this morning. There is still a lot of ice. I went down to the housing on my auger a couple of times.  I'm not sure how much snow we got yesterday and last night but it looks like around 7 to 8 inches at least.
