Nice shoot Maxxed. Gordie, what did that lower unit set you back? What kind of motor HP is it?

Haven't fixed it yet I'm guessing around 400.00 and its a 50hp it still works so I maybe able to transfer the guts from that lower unit to a different case.

Were you on pelican? Thank god the water is going down lost count on how many lower units were busted this year on Devils.

The Last one was a cripple that came in while we were picking up decoys after we were limited on geese... This is the only way I could legally shoot it, with the camera. cry

Encountered some cranes right out the cabin window near Askov. Also found a great spot for wood duck pics.

During my many trips to town yesterday I saw a crane and a goose fighting wish I would of had time to stop and snap a few pics of that.

I managed to witness a bizarre occurrence: trumpeter swans fighting! You want to talk about what happens when a whole lot of bird meets another whole lot of bird and the two get to fisticuffs. Wowza! This was at Crow Hassen park on one of the smaller lakes. I was doing marked retrieve training with Remy, and water intro stuff with Blitz. Out of nowhere, a giant swan comes barreling in over the treetops, zeros in on one of a half dozen other swans on the water, and slams right into it! The two started going at it pretty hard before they chased eachother off the water. This happened at least 5-6 times. Crazy, crazy stuff.

Speaking of crazy, those swans on the water were super curious. They started way on the opposite end of the pond, and after about 10 minutes of the dogs jumping in the water, the entire flock swam to within 10 yards of us. They were calling softly the entire time. That's when the big mean swan came in and ruined the party. But still, very neat experience.

That is cool Tyler. Do you suppose they were sparring over mates? I can just about imagine how the feathers might fly in a match-up between two big Trumpeters! They are HUGE birds.

Either mates or territory. I honestly have no idea. They aren't polygamists, are they? I felt like some of the swans may have been younger birds. I wish a more knowledgable person would have been around. It's tough to explain.

What was really weird was after the aggressing swan chased off his foe, he sat on the water really low, with his wings splayed out. I'm assuming this was some sort of posturing, but I can't be certain.

Look at the dark black on most of them. Only a few were smaller but they still flew into the dekes. There was no difference than a sept 1 hunt really. The only difference was there was no wheat down so i had to set up in a pasture. grin

I'm just razzing ya Ray. Glad you had a good hunt! I just haven't gotten the bug yet. That'll happen a bit closer to September.

I had the blessing and good luck to bag a few geese with my boys on Friday evening in the west central early goose zone. I think I have them hooked on hunting honkers not to mention they love goose jerky.
