Yesterday while en rout to one of my favorite fishing areas I ran into a group of folks who were making their way down the river to Louisiana. I talked to them for a while and they seemed like some real good people on one heck of an adventure. I sure wish I had the time to do something this cool Check out their story and progress made

I've met quite a few folks trying to make the trip over the years, one girl sent updates to folks she met in the course of her trip, she finally gave up after she cleared St. Louis and the big boats were hitting her over sized kayak with waves. Another pair of guys were in a 16 foot fishing boat, I ended up bringing their boat on my trailer around the CR Dam. The classic was a guy on a home made 10 foot pontoon with trolling motors, interesting rig, so was he, started in the Crow and gave up in the Anoka pool, finally figured out his solar panels weren't enough to charge his battery's. Lot of folks try but I doubt many make it. A group that large has a really good chance of making it.

On the one hand, I think it'd be fun to try....how many people can say they've floated/paddled the entire Mississippi? Not many. I've paddled a lot of the Miss here in MN, and it's a wonderful little river (except for the annoying crossings of Winnie, Cass, Bemidji, etfc. but I think a lot of the fun of it would be lost (at least for me) as the river got bigger and bigger.

a friend wants to do it. has a hundred miles or so done. getting up there in age so thinks he may have to sen his ashes on the trip some day.
