Labor Day

Recommended Posts

Big Jeff

Plans are starting to shape up for another trip to Gods Country but my labor day experience is limited on Namakan. We are usually up over the 4th so I am looking for some general info or confirmation about what the fish are up to this time of year.

We usually fish some deeper rock humps, mud flats, island breaks, mid-lake humps and some weed lines and let the fish tell us where they want to be but with 3 kids under 1.5 coming with fishing time will be brief compared to usual and we have never had great success after dark so it limits the options or opens up new things to try when the little ones crash.

My thoughts are to start at the 20-30 ft range because it is still hot and water temps are up but then I hear a story about a bunch of boats out on Pat Smith at night? Are they biting at night on Namakan? Not much luck for me after dark but we usually are jigging or rigging so those are my go to options unless cranks make more sense?

Wondering what works for you over Labor day weekend?

We were just up this past week, our first trip up there ever.

We fished a bunch of deep spots that friends gave me and we had minimal success.

We ended up fishing a shallow hump 8-10' of water on a windy day w/ high skies and did pretty good. TONS of small smallies and enough nice walleyes to keep it interesting.

Slip bobbers w/ a jig and leech or crawler.

I'm sure if we would have fished this spot earlier in the morning or in the evening before dark we would have done better.

Lots of people up there camping and houseboating. Thinking June might be a quieter time to be up there?

Good Luck!!

Brian

Drove by Elysian on my way home this afternoon. Shoreline didn’t appear to be pulling away, view from the highway for what it’s worth.

Got the property surveyed today. Originally plotted back in 1968 and sure enough there where metal pipes marking 3 of the corners but who knows how long it would have taken me to find them. They placed a monument on the missing corner. Hopefully this warm weather sticks around, need to remove some trees and get the wheel house moved in. Thanks everyone for your responses!

Was out on the lake today. Easy 24-26" inches of hard ice yet.

Drove around the entire lake today. From the road it looks like the warm weather has melted most of the snow. Only saw about a half dozen people fishing. Ice isn’t pulling away from shore yet. Stopped at the Borden access and walked out a bit, kicked myself for not bringing the fishing equipment, easy travel out there.

Plastic PC is 3/4 x2 x3.5. Drilled shallow holes on the transom side for the adhesive to cling to. Pretty solid. Time will tell

No shutoff needed. Take a photo of how you mounted your transducer Alex.

Actually when I store the boat I take the unit off as well. Is it ok to have the power line just hanging out? Do I need a shut off switch?
