Ponder

None of our QB's has "it". Cassell may manage the game a little better than Ponder but he isn't the long term answer. I don't think I can handle watching any more of Ponder sucking though. I about threw a brick through my TV when he threw those two essentially no gain passes dead square in the middle of the field on the last drive. Does he know NOTHING about football?

I think we all know now why Wilfs didn't give LF a big contract extension last year. Flukes happen. And as bad as the players have played this year, which is a coaching issue in and of itself, 2 losses are directly bad game coaching decision losses. UGH!!!!!!! LF gets taken by surpise more than a first year highschool coach.

LOL how can you compare MBT to Favre or Brady. The guy couldn't even get starting job in college, but know he's gonna come in and become a hall of famer? Over his college career he threw 13 picks to 8 TD's...

Cassel will be our starter, whether you guys like it or not. He will do better then Ponder, regardless if he isnt as mobile. Being smarter in the pocket for the 3 seconds he has, will mean more then dancing like an itiod for 3 seconds in the pocket. Your right, he isnt our long term answer, but putting in a kid that has no experience to get killed behind a offensive line that cant stop anyone, isnt going to get you anywhere either. It isnt going to tell you what his level of play is, being he has no protection. You have to put the guy in that has the most experience, and is smarter in the pocket.

For instance, I know, bad comparisson, but I am using it. Would you rather have Favre behind center, or TJack behind center, when you have a bad O-line? Favre is old, and cant move fast, Tjack is young, and athletic. I would choose Favre every day of the week, and no, I dont want Favre back on the Vikes. He was a great Packers QB, he should have stayed that way!

Good QB's mask O-line problems really well because they know what they are doing and get the ball out quickly. The Junksons and Blunders of the world would make a good O-line look bad.

Give me MBT over Cassell anyday at this point, we all know what we will get out of Cassell, we don't know what we will get out of MBT, it could be really really good or it could be really really bad, I'd rather gamble.

I'm not quite ready to pull the plug on the season yet, but two more losses over the next 4 games and our best option would be to lose as many games as possible this year. The worst thing that could happen is we wind up being able to take the 3rd or 4th best QB in the draft again.

I was NOT comparing him to either of those two guys, you conveniently left our Kaepernick who I also mentioned BTW. I was merely pointing out those teams had QBs that were down the depth chart and were thrown into a situation where they had to play and that is where they exceled.

For every ONE Brady and Favre, there were probably 20 Shawn Salisbury's, Tarvaris Jackson, etc etc.

I agree cassel will start. It doesn't mean I like it and it sure won't stop me from whining about it on the internet.

I am also not convinced he will do better than ponder. I am guessing he'll do about the same.

Rib issues? HAAAA.

Code for "sit on the pine kid!"

Yep... in the press conference Ponder said "He was told of his injury"... really? That's hilarious!

Good Luck!

MTB is nowhere near any of those 3 guys. Those 3 all had great college careers for good teams and for some reason were just overlooked in the draft. MTB couldn't even get a starting job for Sacromento State, and when he did play he was awful. I've seen his preseason performance the last 2 years, and it's pretty obvious he isn't going to be a solution for the Vikes or any NFL team for that matter.

Boy did Harvin's runs after the catch make CP look better than he is last year, early in the year, returning kicks, etc. With AP shouldering the load etc. Someone said not giving up on the season is it only 2 teams in league history have made the playoffs after an 0-3. I don't like our odds, check out our schedule from here on out and try to figure how many wins, looks like maybe 6 to me. We miss Antoine Winfield's tackling, leading the secondary, we miss Harvin's all around athleticism and Cordarelle isn't quite ready or really the same shifty type Harvin is. We have little rush without blitzing in this pass happy league good night. AP shot his own foot you don't go on the record with this 2,500 yard thing, Chris Johnson did that to and failed miserably that season, leave a sleeping dog lie, why fire up every run defense you're gonna face with extra motivation. Used to hate my teammates making dumb remarks to the other side because we always had a tougher fight then it needed to be. Bet Eric Dickerson was laughing, you don't say stuff like that, kinda a selfish thing AP and I love ya man, but how about I hope we can get out of the first round of playoffs this year and see what happens, rushing record kinda whatever, you're already a hall of famer. How about some humble like you used to do. Love your confidence, but don't want to hear it, want to see it on Sunday's like last year. I remember hearing well last year CP didn't get a full training camp, but this year we did and history will play itself out, hope he's ready for Pittsburgh's blitz packages.

Funny, Tony Romo plays through rib injuries.... laugh

Quote:

Tony Romo's ribs were a forgotten storyline in a Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but it remains a problem for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

He plans to take another painkilling shot before the team faces the St. Louis Rams this week, just like he did one week ago.

"I think tentatively we are planning on it just because of the nature of it and what we thought," Romo said Wednesday, via The Dallas Morning News. "But we'll see as we get there. It does feel better now than it did last week. It'll just keep getting better and better this week. ... I've gotten shot up before in the rib and it seems like it's a normal part of playing quarterback in the National Football League."

Hey, a Bruised rib is a long way away from a broken heart. Loosely based from a quote of one of the greatest coaches of all time...Herb Brooks RIP.

My guess is Ponder will start on Sunday. If it were up to me he would be washing MBT's jock but I don't see it happening.

Matt Cassel received the majority of first-team snaps during Wednesday's practice.

Christian Ponder (ribs) was too sore to take much work Wednesday. The Vikings are hoping he can do more Thursday and insist they don't want to use this injury as a chance to make a quarterback switch. Coach Leslie Frazier said a decision on a starting quarterback for Sunday's game in London will come after Friday's practice. "It's purely circumstantial if that happens," Frazier said of Cassel starting. "We want Christian to play. We want him to get out there and continue to grow and develop as a quarterback."

If Frazier starts Ponder next week, he should be fired before Ponder even can take the first snap of the game.

Quote:
Speaking Tuesday, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier again endorsed Christian Ponder (ribs) as his starting quarterback, but said he's "still injured," and will be re-evaluated on Monday.

Frazier stopped well short of guaranteeing Ponder will be under center when the Vikings come off their Week 5 bye, but did his best to tamp down the burgeoning quarterback controversy in Minnesota. We wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings exercised "extreme caution" with Ponder, giving Matt Cassel another week to showcase his wares against the Panthers. Ponder's job should be considered in limbo until we actually see him make another start.

Glad to see if Cassel starts we can win now held up lol, 1 Cassel turnover at the wrong time we'd be 0 fer. CP would've coughed one up, tough coughin with a busted rib. Time to cut Ponder I think, can you foresee the day where that would come back to haunt us. I think Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler, and Matthew Stafford are likely not going anywhere to soon. I think CP's best bet is to try Jacksonville and maybe unseat Gabbert, he best get their before Josh Freeman or somebody does, nicer winters CP. Had your back CP for 2 years and 1 start, that's all I could handle.

I have to think that Frazier is just putting on a front like Harbaugh did with Alex Smith/Kaepernik last year saying he was the starter all along, but too injured to play. I'm betting that Cassel ends up starting again after the bye, but they will say it's because of the rib injury. There was a quote last week from Brady early in the week congratulating Cassel on the start when Frazier was still telling the media that he was planning on starting Ponder if the injury allowed it.

Quote:
According to ESPN 1500 Twin Cities' Judd Zulgad, Christian Ponder has a fractured rib near his heart.

Zulgad suspects Ponder will wind up missing 3-4 games. He already missed Week 4, and the Vikings are on a Week 5 bye. So per Zulgad's projection, Ponder should be healthy by Week 8 or 9. This will be Matt Cassel's window to steal the starting job for good. Despite coach Leslie Frazier's public denials, multiple national reports have indicated Cassel is very much in the hunt to start for Minnesota the rest of the way, dependent upon his short-term performance.

  • 3 weeks later...

I would think the Rams would have some pretty good interest in either Cassel or Ponder now that their starting QB is out for the year.

I would love to move Ponder for a 5th rounder or what ever we could get for him. C'mon Rams...show some interest!!

Hey government,  Just give us choices. I don’t care what people use as long as as it works for you. I’m needing a new weed eater. Plan on a Stihl FS 40 easy start. I’m done with the cheaper brands. Just don’t last long enough.  Probably true with the Stormy Daniels of the world as well. Cheaper don’t last long enough 🤭

If you turn on a movie they survive the 20min ride just fine. After many controlled experiments, I've found that they survive much better if you show "Finding Nemo" instead of "Jaws."

Quick update: Lucky 7 now has rainbows, fatheads, crappie and light pike in stock. If I remember correctly, scoop of rainbows was $8.99.  Stopped at L&M in Virginia. Rainbows $6.99, fatheads and crappie minnows (scoop) $3.99. I was billed $6.99 dozen for rainbows, but was given a healthy scoop!

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣
