I think we are going to my cabin in Pine River . We are thinking about doing a day trip to Red , Maybe spend some time around Jesse and then do some fishing around the Hackensack Longville area.  That's what we are thinking at the moment anyways.

had 8 1/2 inches of ice where we where at. some water on the ice also. fishing was so-so!

Finally got out here, I found closer to 7" of ice

My mom is up at the cabin. She said there is alot of water on the ice. Anyone else seeing this? It's a small lake, also heard that area had a fair amount of rain last Friday. Think that had anything to do with all the water?

I was out on the south end of Big Jessie last Saturday eve no water there, but had talked to a neighbor on Bowstring that said he found some when he drill holes, east side.

thanks snowfighter! yea I don't know how bad it really is. I just cant see the conditions being that bad where there would bethat much water on top of the ice. she said, well her friend said there is about 8 inches of snow on the lake?

well I just got word even the locals said all the small lakes have lots of water. typically seeing snow then about an inch and a half of ice then 4-5 inches of water then ice. this from the locals that frequent the sportsmans café in deer river!!!!!

anyone with any suggestions/ideas why this is happening????? just doesn't seem right. there isn't that much snow!

It could be the lack of sustained cold temperatures. Some of the days have been getting fairly warm, warm enough to melt some of the snow as well as the snow/slush insulating itself from freezing underneath even when its below freezing. I was out on a few lakes north of Grand Rapids with a snowmobile yesterday and went through some very slushy/watery areas, but most were not very large and was able to find plenty of snow up to around 8 inches that was dry underneath as well.

some lakes must be better/worse then others. got an email from a friend up in marcell, some slush and some lakes only have 10 inches of ice. that below zero temps this week should help!!!!!!!!

Little Jessie Saturday, seen 4 wheel and snowmobile tracks out of access so I only drilled when I reached my spot 12" of clear ice, seen in snowmobile track places where there was refrozen slush, didn't come up much where I drilled

any new info on lake conditions after this polar vortex????????? new snow amounts? heard Cohasset had 3 inches of new snow sat/sun!

Talked to my son a couple hours ago. He just got done with my snowplow route, he said about 5 inches around Bigfork.

Me and the girlfriend are doing a little lake hopping trip this weekend up in the Marcell area....I have been looking at the DNR lake finder trying to find a handful of crappie lakes. I have about 6 lakes for pan fish that look promising and 1 lake trout lake we might hit.... It would be awesome if anyone that has knowledge of the area could throw a couple tips our way... Or if I could ask someone about the lakes I'm thinking of targeting... Just hoping to get the girl friend on a good big crappie bite...Thanks for anything you guys can offer

Do you have a gps or a app on your phone? I would start in or near a basin type area & look for transition areas. Any point or inside turn near the bottom change is worth checking. We have a place in the area & were up the end of January, the best luck we had was 28-32 fow then. Good luck!

Ya I have both, my plan so far is if the water clarity is good (which seems like every lake is up there) to check for weeds and if there's no weeds drill through the basin....Do you know if many of them lakes still have weed growth??

I'm sure there's some with green weed in most of them, finding them might be a problem. With the amount of snow on the ice I'm betting that most are brown. The lake we fished had very clear water this year & we still had our best luck with bright colors. Gold, pink glow, orange glow, firetiger worked best for us. It seemed like the best time for us was usually 2:30-3 until about 4-4:30

Made it over to Bowstring for the 1st time in years yesterday. We used the north access & it was very busy by 10 when we got there. Mostly atv's, a few sleds, 2 or 3 pickups used for travel. We found ~ 2 ' of ice along with 25-26 fow almost straight out of the access. Managed some small crappie & a few nice perch. Talked with a few groups when we were leaving & it sounded like we did better than most. Very nice to start the day but a little breezy by late afternoon. The access was getting pretty well beat up by the time we left

Sorry can't help this time as I haven't been out in 10 days here. Did get out on Bowstring last Saturday a long with a bunch of others & there was almost 2' of ice then but the access was pretty beat up by the time we left.Warm temps on the weekend & rain Monday has put an end to our season. There has been no traffic on this end of our lake this week that I've seen. GOOD LUCK & BE SAFE

Well we made it out, but the bite was not good...caught a handful of tiny gills...There was 8" of ice left and the shorelines were getting pretty sketchy...not the last outting I wanted,  but it was still nice to get out one last time...
