I haven't been out for a bit. I've seen trucks on area lakes still today. A wheeler might be safer at the access soon.

That was my plan. Thanks.?

There are also springs in various places around the lake, mostly west of the bridge.

West of the bridge.... possibly where the best fishing is.... I'm not confirming or denying that statement ?

Have not fished there, there's so many lakes up there. Looking forward to June and taking the nephews into Kramer though.

Yes west of 169 on Pokegama is a lot of water ?

Just read a Jeff sundin report he updated today. On winnie done resorts are only letting quests out, some are still allowing trucks but that's on a daily basis. Most if not all are strongly suggesting ATV.

Haven't seen anything about bowstring.

well sure hope Kettle had better luck fishing then I did!!!!!!!! got up there wed mid morning, was surprised at the lack of snow. unloaded and hit the little crappie hole for the evening run and never marked a fish. by the time i got to thinking they might of moved shallower it was to late to move. mark it down as to old not thinking. ? got 3 1/2 inches of snow overnite.

thursday morning i needed to get a few things done around the cabin, went out on the cabin lake, never marked a fish in the tried and true crappie hole. moved to shallower water.....24 ft other hole was 35 ft. never marked a fish.

friday  was a meet up dat on the west side of winnie for perch chasing.  after finding our nodaks where only letting guests out the destination was west winnie campground. well the ramp was piled up and noone had gone out. called beckers resort, they told us they have been using the campground even yesterday. yea NOT, with the new snow ya didnt have to be Columbo to see it wasnt used. we could see trucks out a ways too!!!!! well beckers said a big crack developed overnite with fishermen on the WRONG side of the crack. they where working on a bridge.....well this guy wasnt going there, so we hiked over to highbanks. they where letting trucks out, but no houses. was surprised how good the ice was went 6 miles out nuttin. then back in to 16 ft of water....got 1 perch. ?

so saturday the plan was to meet up with 3 more, desitnation, bowstring, there where a few small vehicles out, we took ATV,s from the access by geigers, long story short 2 different places no fish........called it an ice season by noon. went back to the cabin had a fire and drank beer!!!!!!!!

i forgot to mention we blamed it on the weather pattern, barametric pressure and the zeebs on winnie. i've heard this before but they claim since the zeebs have been in winnie, the perch seemedto have changed there late ice pattern.

I caught a mix of sunfish, crappie and bass in 6-10 feet on Saturday. Not a ton but the fish were aggressive, tungsten glow jigs and waxies

any reports on ice going away, especially on smaller lakes. giegers cam looks to me like there landing isnt just water on the ice anymore, and the narrows has open water.

Apperantly an ATV went through the ice on Pokegama Lake off Kings landing the other day.

Sad news but not surprising, ice is going fast! No snow left in the cities some decent sized bodies of water nearly completely open

I checked the geiger's and Williams narrows cams this morning. Not much has changed in the past 3 days.

I want to get back up there but really would want the cabin lake ice free first. This is really testing my patience ??

I'll be up next weekend seeing the family, I'll check out a few lakes and let you know

?Again?:(:P According to over 30 years of records for our lake ice-out on a normal year is somewhere around 4/25 on average & for an early year the average is about 4/15. Some above normal temps, near 60*, predicted starting next weekend for nearly 10 days so we may even be on the front side of the early ice-out date a little.

....and what songs were blasting through those headphones when the laker hit? That might be the key.   For me, I can always get the fish bite to turn on if I dial up the polka!

On the South Shore...  There is still some ice fishing taking place in a few areas of the lake along the south shore but most resorts and outfitters have pulled their fish houses and called it a good year.  Make sure to call ahead to the resort or outfitter for current conditions if you plan on getting on the ice.  Safety first always.   For those still fishing, some are still targeting walleyes.  There continues to be a good morning / evening bite along the south shore just prior to sunset.  Quality fish are being caught in a number of areas.     Most still ice fishing are targeting trophy pike.  It was another great week with some big fish caught.  Another week of big fish tipping that 40 inch mark with big girths.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt set about a foot under the ice or just off of the bottom have proven effective.   On the Rainy River...  Spring open water fishing has begun!  The Rainy River is open in many areas and as of Monday, March 31st, there are two boat ramps open.  The Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale and the Frontier Access (about 8 miles to the west of Nelson Park) are both clear of ice.  Boats are running the river and the ice pack is deteriorating by the day.   Initial reports for walleyes are very good with some big fish being caught.  Most are jigging with either plastics or minnows.  Use bright plastics such as chartreuse, orange, pink and white.  for minnows, emerald shiners, fatheads and rainbows have all been productive.     Trolling crankbaits against the current is also effective and will catch fish.  This is also a good technique to cover water if you are not on fish. Rainy River walleye fishing is catch and release from March 1st through April 14th on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.  Initial reports for sturgeon are also good.  Anchored up in a hole or on the slope of a hole with a no roll sinker and sturgeon rig is the ticket.  Lots of walleye anglers reporting sturgeon hookups as well.  Here are the seasons for sturgeon fishing...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th. Up at the Northwest Angle...  It has been a great ice fishing year up at the Angle.  While there are a few locals still getting out, resorts have pulled off their fish houses and called it a year.     Plan for the MN Fishing Opener which is Saturday, May 10, 2025! The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well.  You can fish for sturgeon through May 15th.
