Throwing Carp on Shore to Die

Recommended Posts

I think the cover of 2014 regulations should be related to wanton waste with an emphasis on carp. It's time to kill the idea in many people's heads that you must leave carp on shore. That law died in 1981.

Here's a good cover:

Release what you don't eat.

It's illegial to leave fish on the shores.

No you are not because when all is said and done there are too many and some of them have to go.

No, not at all. Out of 25 folks that are archery anglers, 1 or 2, or a handful, will do the wrong thing. If all the bow fishing folks here at HSO follow the law, and dispose of them accordingly, then those that don't probably don't view this forum anyway. Same holds true for the rod and reel anglers, but the numbers are probably higher for those anglers with a rod/reel, that throw the fish on shore. The issue makes for a good topic/thread. I would bow fish myself, and see nothing wrong with it, but I don't have the time to do so.

Is it possible that the guys who shoot a barrel full of carp are actually selling them somewhere for critter food of some type?

I'm sure all of you have seen the program Bottom Feeders. These guys make a living catching carp and other rough fish, as well as catfish, and sell them at some sort of market. I don't know who buys them, but I'd guess they're being sold for some sort of critter feed?

When I was young we used to have clouds of sheepshead in our local river. When they turned the electric turbines on at the dam there would be huge schools of sheepshead lazily swimming just ahead of the current. Back then there were still lots of mink farmers in the area. They would come every night and fill 50 gallon barrels full of fish and either take them to mink farmers for sale, or likely feed their own mink.

Releasing the fish back to the water is obviously the best course of action. What's sad is when someone is catching carp after carp, and they simply continue to catch them only to throw them on shore. I mean honestly, if you don't want to catch carp just go somewhere else. It doesn't make sense. I agree with the OP. It's akin to cr_pping where you eat.

Water Temps 48-52. I tried for crappies and caught two walleye. I can't even crappie fish. 1/32 ounce jig and a tiny minnow

Looks like you could use a FM hat. 😉    The future son in law prefers the lump coal.  He’ll start it in coal starter over a propane burner, then dump in it his smoker grill as needed.   Congrats on the clean break “over there”.

Should really start a What yeah Smoking thread!    Another fun place we tried when up in Duluth. OMC stands for "Oink, Moo, Cluck" They serve pork cracklins for starter to test their sauces on.

On the east side of St. Boni. It's not too far from me. A friend lives in St Boni and loves the place. I haven't tried it yet.

First time ever going there with the wife. Little spendy but they make some darn good piles of meat! We had the brisket! 😋

I have heard it's because of the drought. I know in my area ( meeker co.) the sloughs that they trap minnows in have dried up.

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!
