Probably a dumb question

but here it goes....

Do walleye hate sheepshead or something? The last couple times I've been out and catching walleye the eye bite has ended when I pull in sheepshead. If you're out and the eye are hitting and then the sheepshead show up is it time to move if you want to catch more walleye?

I don't think so, many times they're in the same spots and you'll catch a few of each.

I've really question what you're out there for if you'd want to move......... So you're fishing pool 2 where you can't keep walleyes. I've caught a lot of walleyes and sheepies and I'll tell you what- when they slam my jig and plastic there is no way you can tell what species it is when they hit it. About the only way I can tell AFTER the bite is a decent size sheepie will out fish a limp richard walleye any day of the week. So, I ask you- why would you leave anyway?

With your MN walleye blinders on you're really missing out if you want to move every time to go chase something that fights LESS when you're probably not keeping either one anyway. WALLEYE WALLEYE WALLEYE WALLEYE WALLEYE!

Okay. I enjoyed catching the sheepshead, nice fight. Sweet lecture, but the reason I asked is because, like I already said, the walleye bite turned off everytime I started pulling in the sheepshead. Therefore, if I'd want to catch more walleye I'd have to move. The reason I'm out there is because I enjoy catching fish. I would like to catch some large walleye, since this is the first year I've fished the river and also the first time since 05-06 that I got back into fishing. Excuse me for targeting a particular species that I enjoy catching, sorry that you don't. Also, the walleye that I've caught on the river this year have had plenty of fight in them. I took a friend out last weekend, and when he caught his first river eye he said that it fought harder than any eye he'd ever caught in his life.

No lecture. Just pointing out the walleye brain wash that has ahold of many MN fisherman. I also like to catch all fish that pull on my line- the harder the better. I'm not keeping any very often anyway, almost never out of open water. So, I appreciate a good sheepie as much as a good walleye. I know it's not as cool in MN to pimp the pics online and facebook though.

I have found that sheephead and walleyes will be in the same spot sometime you just need to weed out the sheep. Most of the time that I have problems with sheep are when I am using crawlers so if I get sick of catching them I switch to gulp minnows. That will limit the amount of sheephead you catch and does not seem to effect the eye bite.

My 2c is during the summer months sheep are more active than the walleyes. If walleyes are there feeding it seems sheephead are not away.I have found out that walleyes eat the young sheephead. Found 2-4inch sheephead under some docks on Norway Lake, the walleyes were not far away. If there are any young sheephead around the older fish, Maybe the walleye are eating them?

I think that the eyes are still where you are fishing them its just that the sheepies are getting to your bait sooner than the eyes.. Kinda like when you find big sunfish but have to get down threw the smaller ones to get them. 2c

I have caught both in the same area, but if i start catching sheephsead one after another I move to a different spot. I know spots I can catch sheepshead one after another, but i only fish those when I fish with someone who just wants to catch fish and don't care what kind. If your trolling and catching only sheepshead try speeding up.
