WIld vs. Hawks

I for one do not want to see Darcy play tonight. He simply does not have the NHL experience to be playing agains the Hawks in the playoffs.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him in net. Yes he looked bad last game but I he looked good during the regular season. I kind of feel a healthy Kuemper pulling a win out of his arse is a bit more likely than an injured Harding or Backs right now. Of course a lot of that depends on how injured those guys are and only the coaches know that but it doesn't sound good right now.

John Casey is dressing tonight if he can wear the North Star jersey.

I sure hope Harding is able to still be effective. Worse thing we could do is throw an injured goalie out there and give up any chance we had of losing.

Yeo on Harding: "We don’t know how he feels, but you have to trust him, and he says that he is good to go."

getting tough to watch. we cannot seem to take advantage of good scoring chances, we need to put the puck into the net against a great team like this when we have them chances.

The Wild were beaten mentally by the Chicago defense. I was having fun watching the game until the Blackhawks got their first goal. After that it was all Chicago, at least until I turned it off. The Wild were frustrated by a very good defensive team.

At least Chicago should be a different team next year, they are only 2 million under the cap right now at 21 players. The Wild will be better next year.

I said at the start of this year that I think they will be fun to watch for the next 2. We'll see how it goes.

Tough series. Like I said, this was about the worst possible draw for the Wild. Hopefully we don't get hit with a plague of injuries just before the playoffs next year. Some improvements on D next year would be nice too.

Chicago was so smooth moving the puck out of their zone and crossing our blue line. 3-4 tape to tape passes and they made it look easy. Then there was our game where we struggled to get it to the red line and then were about 30% successful in dump and chase.

0 for 17 on power play. Nothing more needs to be said about that.

Couldn't bury the puck in the net even when it was wide open. Koivu with that Juicy Lucy rebound that went right up the middle; missed a net that was 70% open. Crawford was good, but he could have been beaten numerous times in the series and wasn't.

Backs had a sports hernia I guess. I don't think Kuemper would have been much better last night. Not sure what we do in goal next year.

So many questions for next year that still need to be addressed. On the positive, all these guys finally got some playoff experience, so they should be better prepared next year. Zucker played great, Brodin is a stud Dman. Scandella should replace one of the slower Dmen next year. Granlund hopefully pulls up his game next year. Hopeful for '13/14.

I say we go after Luongo. I believe he has some game left in the tank and could help us big-time.

Yeah, that was super frustrating dominating the 1st period again and being down. The Hawks 1st goal was weak and it seemed to deflate the entire team and fan-base.

That being said it was great to get back in the play-offs and the future is looking bright.

I'm thinking home ice easily next year and a very dominant home record to boot.

Im excited about the realignment. One thing that I heard (believe it was from Russo) that in looking at all the travel time, games in back to back nights on the road, etc, The Wild had the worst schedule in the NHL this year pertaining to traveling. This weighs heavily. Probably would have been much worse in a normal season, but still its a disadvantage.

I do think the Wild are much closer to being a serious contender than many of the naysayers.

They were competing and really could have one any of the games with the exception of two. You just have to get those pucks in when you have the chance. The way the Blackhawks clogged the middle just shut them down, no rebounds. Too many shots from outside the dots and too close to the boards. Need to get the puck in the middle more for better chance at rebounds.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
