Bait Shops?

Heading up to the river in the morning from Virginia. Anyone have a recommendation of a bait shop that's along the way with minnows?

Neither Up North Outdoors nor the Y-not have Rainbows. You'll want to find them along the way somewhere. They make a big difference. $48 per quart at Lucky's in Baudette.

That's weird, because I called them this afternoon and they said they had rainbows, shiners and crappie minnows.

If one were to estimate, how many dozen rainbows would that $48 quart give you??

Well a spottail shiner runs about a 44 count (that's 44 dozen per gallon). Now if the rainbows (creek chubs) are graded for walleyes they run about the same. That would be 11 dozen in a quart or $4.30 a dozen. Now if they are left as a "river run" mixed with mud minnows and smaller sizes the count can go as high as 56, but then you have bunch of little minnows and we found the larger presentation was working better.

That would realy suck if the DNR required you to dump them out as you left the water.

How do you keep the water in the bucket from freezing while you're fishing? Sorry, I just had to. LOL
