Hand held color GPS

I would like to get a hand held color gps. I would like to be able to put lake map chips in it. Are there any recommendations good or bad on what ones to look at.

Garmin just released the Oregon 600 and 650 ( digital camera built into the 650 ), these are new touch screen models and look to represent the ' next generation ' of handhelds from Garmin. If you're not into the touchscreen models, they also have the popular GPSMap 62 series and the Etrex series.

They ( Garmin 600 and 650 ) are set to be released for purchase within a week.

I also see Garmin has expanded it's lineup of lake maps too but I am unsure how they will act in the new 600 and 650 ( but I'm going to find out ), they are boasting shaded relief, dynamic lake level setting and depth range settings.

The Upper Midwest Fishing Guide serves you very well on Lake of the Woods, I've got it and I like it. The new chips cover regions of the U.S. or the whole U.S. in regular, HD or ' Ultra HD ' data.

This just scratches the surface on what you can do with a Garmin handheld.

I have the garmin etrex 30. I used to have the lorance h20 and loved it. This etrex30 works great. The garmin is smaller/compact which is nice but the h20 had a larger lcd display. I think the Garmin midwest package is way better than nav or lakemaster chips. (my opinion) Although they all are fine I just like this better. Lots of HD maps and you get ALL of LOW even Canadian side. I purchased right from Garmin site I think 99.00. Its well worth it just wish you could use the software on your other garmin products. In all there all good but most of them are micro sd now or preloaded. The h2o stuff is outdated I beleve. Hope that info helps

I agree I just recently replaced my h20 and 04 lotw lake master chip with a etrex 20 and upper Midwest fishing guide chip it has more lakes with 1 contours and better detail of lotw on the mn side I noticed.
