Road to the Frozen Four

Got back from Pitt late last night so I'm finally checking FM. SCSU has to play better defense to win it. Just kind of disappointed of the long drive and they were never really in the game. Nice to finally make the Frozen Four.

Congrats to Yale. I was telling my buddies that I thought they might be the team to beat as I was liking the way they were playing!!!

If SCSU makes it next year I think Pitt is my limit for a drive. I don't think I'd want to drive all the way across Pennsylvania to get to Philly.

Hats off to you for making the drive. You are a great fan! Bummer that the game started the way it did.

Since you were there, how full was the arena would you say? On TV it looked like maybe 60-70% full in the first 10 rows. Granted many of those empty seats were probably sold, but with fans of the opposite Thursday game. They rarely if ever showed the rest of the arena.

I'm trying to understand the logic of selecting Pittsburgh one year and Philadelphia the next? The X was packed and rockin' in 2011. I don't understand why it wouldn't be in the permanent rotation every 4-5 years given the venue, type of fans here, and great college teams around here. Joe Louis in Detroit and Boston are 2 other areas that should be part of the rotation. Then go to 1-2 new venues every cycle.

I thought St Cloud skated well for the most part. But that first goal was the goalies fault and our Hobey guy needs to make that play back on D for their third goal. Huskies just couldn't get an Mo going since they could get another goal to make it a little closer. I wouldn't have minded a more exciting 3-2 loss or something but we never really got back into it.

Rink was probably closer to 80-85% full on Thursday. My one friend has been getting tickets for 10 years in hopes he's get some better seats. We were top deck in a corner. I told him to dump the seats and I would rather try to get them from the University since they were all lower level. Otherwise I could have gotten lower level seats through stub hub right after the Husky game. My point is I don't think it sounds like the NCAA has much of a problem selling the seats but attendance probably isn't quite where it should be in a case like this.

There were definitely a few lower level seats that were empty but the upper deck was pretty full all the way around as well. Probably a few less people on Sat. since 2 of the teams were out of it.

As far as tickets go I think the same very large group of people renew every year, they probably go most years but can't make it every year but still pay so they don't lose their spots. You also have fans of the teams that just don't go to all the games and once their teams loses they are done. I hear tickets are pretty easy to come by on Thursday from the losing teams fans. Really the only time frozen four tickets will be hard to come by is when you have a big school playing in their back yard.

The main reason St Cloud lost was they were not playing on a Saturday, their record on friday games is horrible. Granted this was a thursday.

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.

I found this dock wheel floating in Black Bay. If it's yours or you know whom it belongs to, go and grab it.

Most years for opener I drive up on Thursday. This year it was Friday afternoon so I figured bait would be tight. The only place that I stopped was L&M in Virginia. They said that they sold out of rainbows by 11am. I got crappie minnows and never needed the rainbows. All my walleye were caught dragging raps. The crappie minnows....well, you know what they caught.

Did you have any luck?     I got a bird but didn’t really do much for pics worth showing.
