I realize that... They were over priced when they originally signed. Still have no idea what so ever they were thinking when they signed Carlson to 5 mil a year...

Greg Jennings will start at the flanker, or "Z" position, in the Vikings' offense.

It's the same spot Percy Harvin occupied. Jerome Simpson is penciled in as the field-stretching split end and Jarius Wright will come on in three-wide sets. The Vikings also figure to add wideout talent early in April's draft. But the focal point of the passing game will be Jennings, who can play all the positions and run all the routes. Remember that Harvin racked up 80 targets in the first eight games of last season before going down in Week 9.

That's interesting...I knew he could play any of the WR spots but figured Wright would get a shot at replacing Percy's role.

The Vikes could always sign Urlacher to give them a bit of a boost at linebacker. He and the Bears just parted ways. The Vikes are like Lady LIberty. Give us your tired, your poor, your aged, your overpriced . . . . grin

Here.

That is true Steve, I thought the Vikes were done going that route but I guess not.

If we try to use Jennings like we used Percy he'll be lucky to survive a few games.

Urlacher should just hang up his cleats, and look into a possible LB coaching position. His mind is stronger then his body.

I'll support Urlacher on this one. He rushed back too fast from the knee injury and then picked up the sympathetic hamstring problem because he was still favoring the knee - classic athlete mistake. Now that he's had time to heal, his mind and body should be back in sync for another season or two.

Urlacher could easily play with some pi$$ and vinegar after his perceived slight from the Bears. Playing for a divisional rival could push his spite level through the roof for one or two seasons.

I think the vikes are still trying to land winfield at a reduced contract, and they will remain luke warm on Urlacher till they know he is gone. If they would sign Urlacher I can't believe they would give much more than what the bears were offering. Winfield has recieved a luke warm reception into the free agent market and is once again in talks with the vikes.

I'd much rather have Winfield back than sign Urlacher...both would cost roughly the same.

If its a either/or scenario I agree Winfield would be a bigger addition than Urlacher.

Maybe for this year's playing time... but I think their thoughts are Urlacher will be a greater value as he will be able to work with the linebackers they draft this year and teach them his skills at a hard position to come into from college. It's hard to argue he has been one of the better LBs the past decade... His insight with young talent could prove invaluable!

Good luck!

Oh heck yeah! We should sign him for some big money, after all we are really desperate at MLB and he'd be the best we've had at that position in a long time!! Do the lions have any old washed up scrubs we can grab next? grin

Wouldn't mind seeing the Vikings pick up Tyrann Mathieu with their late 3rd or 4th if he's available.

I agree LAB, one year of Urlacher may well prove to be the bomb.

I wouldn't do any more than a 1 year deal at minimum salary. Did you watch him play (when he did play) last year? He was not good. Now he is ALWAYS hurt and very slow. I hope the vikings don't even talk to him. As bad as Jasper Brinkley was, at least he still had some upside. Sometimes you just need to call it a career and retire gracefully.

Mike Wallace is a very rich man. I know this seems like a very obvious statement considering the former Steeler signed a 5-year $60 million contract with the Miami Dolphins (the deal included a $11 million signing bonus and $27 million in guaranteed money).

He has so much money that he could buy and sell my existence several million times over.

That said, according to Wallace’s dad, the 26-year old wide receiver could have pocketed even more cash if he had decided to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

“The [Vikings] had come to the point where they were telling him, ‘You don’t have to live here, just be here during the season,’ ” Wallace’s father, Mike Jr., said by phone this week. “He wanted to get out of that snow and cold weather.”

Well, I guess we learned today that sometimes money isn’t everything. We also learned that no sane human being would actively choose to live in Minnesota during the winter.

Urlacher is a complete waste of time and in no way will be a part of the Vikings.

I hope da Bears take Ogletree and we get Brown. Teo can go somewhere else.

Why didn't we sign Flynn? Did I see that the Raiders picked him up for a 14 and 15 late round pick. He was worth that all day.

He is basically Ponder, no need for two of them.

I've never seen Ponder light up any NFL team for 6 touchdowns in a game. That said, I might agree that Flynn isn't right for the Vikings offensive scheme but I think that he's a better QB than Ponder.

I agree! Rag Arm and Flynn have never been used in the same sentence... He proved he could step in and play for Rogers if the need arose. I'd hardly say Ponder could step into the Packer's line up and be utilized the same as Rogers... we don't have anyone to hand off to! He'd have to pass!

Good Luck!

Well, they both have weak arms, and cant throw a deep accurate ball. They are both young, and need lots of work to ever become anything of a starter in this league.

OK, lets look at the situation here. Packers have a Superbowl team, their starting QB goes down, Flynn steps into a Superbowl team minus the QB. Ponder has about the same mechanics as Flynn, about the same experience, and the same flaws. The difference is that Flynn got to step into a Superbowl ready team, and play a few games, Ponder got to step into a bunch of doodo.

What did Flynn show last year? Not much!

He didnt get to play last year...

Weak arm? Really? Did you ever watch Flynn? That is not an accurate statement... He is ready to be a starter. Pete Carroll knew it and went after him in the off season last year... they had no idea what they had in Russell. We'll see what Flynn can do with a bunch of Raider doo - doo... they are far from SB ready!

Good Luck!

Ken

Opener and the week after were good.  Not the numbers we normally get but better quality in the East End.  Not surprised on the weights for the Auto City a.  Usually for us we only catch a few slot fish but we averaged 3 a day for 10 days.  2 overs, biggest 27 inches.     Our best luck was 12-16 feet for quality.  When we went deeper we caught more but smaller.  Bass were really starting to heat up.  For me little earlier than normal.  Found some nice Bluegills the day we went after some panfish.  Dock fishing was as many as we wanted per usual.

We will be up on June 8th for the week. It will be our 13th year in a row staying on the lake.  I hope the walleye are hitting the bobbers by the time that we get there.

Those are some fine specimens. Great job

I'm quite shocked to hear that a walleye tournament is still doing a live weigh in.  Virtually every event these days around here is doing a catch, photo, and release format.   Regardless, nice work.  Congrats.

On the south end...   A great week of fishing with walleyes and saugers caught in good numbers.   The go-to presentation, again, was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 17 - 21' of water.  Various schools of walleyes and saugers across the south shore.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.   Some big pike and jumbo perch being caught by walleye anglers. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers normally head to the lake.  12 - 15' of water is holding some nice fish.   Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes being caught along with a mixed bag.  12 - 25 feet of water.  Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water were holding good fish this week.    The go-to presentation was a jig and minnow as on the south shore.  A mixed bag as is common around the Angle.

Nice work!   Here's two words you hardly ever hear anyone say anymore.  "grateful and humbled"

RLG, thanks for the shout-out!     Jeff and I are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened this past weekend.  We are humbled and full of gratitude  for having won 'The Classic' for a second time.     We practiced through all the rain on Thurs and the wind on Friday and found six different spots holding big fish.  Fishing was good on both days with several 'overs' in our catch...but would it hold up for another day?   We didn't know.     On tourney day, we made a long run to our first spot where I lucked out on a 26.5"er on my second cast.  Jeff followed up with a thick 27" er a few minutes later, which turned out to be the big fish for the event at 7.26lbs.  We finished out our limit and weighed-in at 10:30 am for the welfare of the fish in our livewell.    There were some big weights in this event which would have won in most other years, but - for whatever reason - this was our day.  Everything just went our way.  Again, we are just super grateful and humbled by this success.  We also want to congratulate all the other anglers who did well and give a big 'thank you' to the tournament organizers who put on such a great event!

I had a good start to the season on opener. Fishing was slow but consistent. I had four eaters in the box by lunch dragging perch raps. Crappies were biting. I haven't been up since so don't know how things have changed since then, but I'm sure the walleye continue to migrate out into the main basins.

Let’s start this by congratulating Brianf and son for winning their second City Autoglass Walleye Classic last weekend. These guys know how to fish.  We just got to the lake for the season. Chores are almost done and I’m ready to fish.  red(new dog is more yellow)labguy

I tried starting a 2024 Lake Vermilion Fishing Report topic but it doesn't show up on this board.   Maybe somebody else knows how to do it?
