First Timer - Suggestions on Rental

I'm a Red Lake virgin and I'm giving serious thought to bringing my young son up for a couple days of Red Lake walleyes in mid-Feb. We have a nice wheelhouse but thinking for our maiden voyage we would rent a house so we can get the lay of the land. Any suggestions from you veterans on where to rent? My son is only 4 but loves to fish, so as long as action is relatively steady (doesn't have to be constantly fast and furious) he stays interested. But of course having the ability to pop in a dvd if things slow down is always nice... not sure anyone up there has such a rental but thought I'd check. Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks for the responses. Just wish I knew which one to choose... Maybe I'll try the Waskish Minnow Station first. smile

If you are wanting to pop in a dvd, you will either want to bring your own generator and tv or else try cookies, portavilla, outdoor authority. I know these 3 for sure run you power. Cookie is on the north shore which I prefer. If you do have your own generator, Beacon Harbor, Hillmans, waskish minnow station, bear paw, westwinds, all work on that side of the lake as well with very good reputations. Good luck!!

I am also a first timer coming up this summer. I am having a hard time finding maps that show where public assesses are. I will more than likely be staying in the Waskish area or camping on south side of Upper Red. Any info on Upper Red lake maps would be great.

There is an access right on 72 on the north end of Waskish... Westwinds has a great access/Harbor in Waskish. On the south shore Rogers has a great access/Harbor and I do believe Mort's does too...

Good Luck!

Unilder,

Hillmans has a landing also right in waskish. It is right on the river and is a nice place to pull your boat up to when you aren't fishing (overnight). Sandy shore so you won't scratch your boat and out of the wind. They have bait and groceries also. It is a private access like westwinds/rogers with a small fee.. however, worth it to me. I know you were asking for a public access...just thought I would let you know.
