Well, right now my daughter is out because of practice but I'm gonna hit up a guy I fish with and another guy and his son from church and see if we can't get a 4some together. We probably can't get there untill 1 or 130 with Church. Thanks Don!

Shooting our 3D on Saturday, I was really happy to hear all the referrals to go shoot your 3D at Chilakoot.

We are planning atleast once this year and hopefully soon.

I know we are out for the April one, we are heading to Washington DC for business.

Looking forward to it.

Rippinlip, what is your club?

If you only make it to Chilakoot once this year, do it in June. We're having our 60th Anniversary and we're doing it up big! Two days, 40 targets each day. Door prizes, including three new bows, vendors, camping, youth into to archery, trophy displays, etc.

More info to come.

Faribault Archery Club

A bunch of us were talking during league about other 3D shoots around the area and Chilakoot was mentioned and very highly recommended.

I just put the June shoot on my calendar.

Trying to convince the wife to try a winter shoot and head over there in March.

Post up your public shoots. Faribault isn't that far, there's a bunch of us that travel around to other clubs just about every weekend till turkey hunting and summer fishing take over.

I've heard some good things about your club too, but have never been there.

This weekend in Owatonna our archery club (FAC) is hosting the MSAA shoot, but along with that we are also having a 3D shoot that is open to all, not just for the shooters in the tournament.

I shot that indoor 3D at the state tournament yesterday. Really enjoyed it, nice set-up, nice targets. Was my first indoor 3D.

Sunday, April 21st will be the next Chilakoot Shoot. Sure hope all the snow's gone by then. crazy

Don, the Indianhead Archery League calls Sunday's shoot a "challenge shoot". Is this any different than 3D?

3D shoot this Sunday the 21st.

It is called a challenge shoot because the scoring is different. You can shoot from your choice of stakes, scoring is different from each. Closest is an 8 for a vital, farthest is a 12. Vital is a lung shot, not heart. Anything outside the lung area is negative points.

Same set-up, same targets, just different scoring. Weather's starting to warm. Hope to see everyone there!

Confirmed I will be there with a couple people tomorrow. Is anyone else going to be there? We should be there about 10 or so.

Don, I know you will be there. I hope to run into you sometime there.

I shot it this morning, and although the weather was lousy it was enjoyable. I particularly liked the rubber ducks (knocked one off) and the buck climbing the tree. I wish more courses would do funny things like that.

It was a fun shoot, I will be back for the June hunt. I looked for you Don, but you were out on the course somewhere. Dan, and I ended up shooting with Mike, the Vice President, he was a blast to shoot with.

Hey Rippinlip, what is your club? Is it Faribaults? I was thinking about hitting the Waseca shoot this weekend, and could swing over to you guys's as well.

Yep, I belong to the Faribault Archery Club.

The wife and I are going, I think she is shooting this one too...

Now that we are done traveling for a few weeks, I am going to be taking in a lot of 3D's.

Maybe I can take Waseca in this weekend as well.

Was fun in Washington DC this past weekend, lots of green grass and 70's!

I went to 3 3D shoots this past weekend. I made Pass Thru's, and Straight Rivers on Saturday, then went up to Chilakoot's on Sunday. It was fun, not sure I could do it every weekend though.

Hey, Happy Birthday Don!

I just read the article yesterday and thought Mary might be your Mom. It's an awesome history your club has. Bet they never knew that initial $1,300 would bring so much to their lives over the years.

Good luck fishin' if you're sneaking out to do that today.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
