Will anyone even challenge Alabama this year (YES, Texas AM)....or next ? (Yes, Auburn & Oklahoma)

LMITOUT is just speaking in riddles like usual but I suspect he is talking about allegations that Alabama and some other SEC players received benefits.

Even if they did, it's not like they don't elsewhere.

To just make it even across the board, I think they should just start paying college athletes. When you consider that an out of state UCLA undergraduate tuition plus room and board is $55k PER YEAR, I guess they already are paying them when they're on scholarship -- to the tune of $4k plus per month. So really, what's the difference if they were to give them a few grand more per month for spending money? smile

I would have to disagree with you on paying them even a little. 99% of these kids on scholarship aren't going pro in anything. They however are coming out of school debt free with a education that would cost them around 100k. They don't like it sit out X years till your eligible to be drafted and skip school or go north of the border or of to Europe and get paid them come back here. Of course many want to blow it and get a education in general studies or some other talk degree. If your to dumb to take advantage and get a degree that will pay you well, then that's your fault.

A & M doesn't have a defense at all. I watched them in their opener and it was the same deal.

Alabama is good as always but they will face much tougher competition throughout the year.

A & M will finish in the middle of the pack in the SEC with this defense.

I agree A&Ms defense is not good but when you have an offense that good you don't need as good of a defense.

Best team won again today as usual even though the refs were obviously from Texas.

Too bad the whole game couldn't have been like the 1st and 4th quarters. Yeah, A&M's defense is terrible, but they could realistically win every game left. LSU should beat them, but their offense isn't as good as Alabama's.

Both teams defenses are suspect...I would look for a new national champion this year....

Oregon has mighty fine uni's....

If Oregon were in the SEC, they would be middle of the pack at best. I'm not too sure they would fair much better in the Big 10 either.

Well, I didn't get to watch the game but it seems they did challenge Bama. However, great game and now that you beat the best you shouldn't have to worry about the rest.

Congrats.

I'm not too sure that A&M is the best and I think there are more challenges ahead but I hope you're right.

Nice Avatar BTW!

I think LSU represents a much tougher task than A&M. And there's a possible matchup in the SEC title game with South Carolina/Georgia.

Or Missouri?

Missouri certainly is a surprise this year, but they deserved to lose that game to south carolina.

Watch Auburn beat them and ruin their perfect season. I'd love to see that.

Good luck with all that.

Meh......I'm not too concerned about the second best team in Alabama.

You should be very concerned about your head coach heading west though....

Yeah, there is that.

We'll see what happens. I think he is just trying to get an even fatter contract from Alabama. He's 62 years old, I'm not too sure he would want to build up yet another program but maybe that's what he likes to do.

I can't see any reason for Saban to leave Alabama. Not to mention, Mack Brown's seat isn't so hot anymore.

That was early...I would think the right team is on pace for a showdown with Alabama.

FSU

But without Christian Ponder?

I'm glad Oregon lost. I think Florida State matches up much better against Alabama, and has a much better chance of beating them than Oregon did.

Hard to figure out haw "for real" Florida State really is. They haven't played any teams of substance at all but at least they have slaughtered everyone they faced for the most part. If things continue the way they are, we'll find out what they got in January.

After a minute or two of staring through my scope, I dropped my rifle in the grass, fell to my knees, and prayed for this blessed creature.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
