Now I know you know nothing about college football. You should probably go back to cheering for the gophers.

With your statement you just made above, you proved you know nothing about college football laugh

Just a wannabeee bandwagon fan. cool

And I don't have to go back to cheering for the Gophers. I never stopped. I am a fan of my teams through good and bad. Mostly bad though for a long time. frown

But you won't see me waiting to announce I'm a fan at bandwagon time like someone in this thread. smile

LOL, no band-wagoner here. I grew up in Alabama when I was a kid so I have been a Crimson Tide fan all of my life.

Sorry if it apears to you that I am only announcing that I am a fan at bandwagon time but when you are a Crimson Tide fan, every day is bandwagon time. grin

In all honesty, A&M did NOT squash Alabama. They dominated the 1st qtr by far, but for the most part got outplayed the rest of the game, and it basically came down to the final play. With that being said, I was cheering for A&M. But I was also cheering against them when they played Louisiana Tech. Just because 1 team has a win over another, doesn't make them better. They had that 1 night of glory, and they should be happy about it. But when all is said and done after the season is over, bama will be holding the national title trophy, while the aggies lose to oklahoma in the cotton bowl wink

What planet are you from? A win most certainly does mean one team is better and they proved it by being better when they played laugh

silly wabbit.

ohh and correction... and you believe bama will be holding the national fake title.

So the Vikings are a better team than the 49ers huh?

Was LSU a better team than Alabama last year?

I'll be cheering for notre dame, but I don't think they have the fire power to hang with alabama for 4 quarters. They'll slow down the run game big time, but a handful of big plays will propel the tide to victory frown

The title of this post reads this year or next. While next year is obviously in the future we can say without question that the Tide was challenged this yr.

One loss and one game down to the wire to me means they were not perfect and were challenged for sure. Heck, with a tough game coming up they could have 2 losses on their record.

I'm betting on the Tide tho.

Not really the outcome I was hoping for. I think my favorite part of the entire game was when the center about leveled McCaron. That was pretty entertaining!

One of these 2 teams is still in the playoffs and the other is not.

I bring that up because it was the 1st game of the season. Who else was playing a ranked opponent in week 1?

23 other schools I would guess?

The SEC has benefited greatly from the practice of over signing classes. Now that this practice has been capped the playing field will level out and the gap between that league and others won't be as considerable. Yeah, they've been on a run the last 7 years but they've also had the advantage of playing by a different set of rules until this past year. They won't be able to run as many kids off who are not as strong academically.

It was a bad match-up from the beginning. In all honesty, if Notre Dame plays in the SEC, they are a middle of the road team.

A play-off system (top 16) would have eliminated them in the early rounds.

Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Texas A & M, Georgia etc...would have all done the same thing to the Golden Domers tonight.

Congrats to the Crimson Tide...I hope the Vikes get lucky enough to grab a few of them in the next few years.

Can't believe this practice hasn't landed up in court rooms all over the south...or anywhere for that matter. Really disturbing the way some of the athletes are handled by the programs who choose to work this method of recruiting.

Usually takes the NCAA a few years. Bama and the rest of the SEC might have a few titles taken away. Now that would be a dynasty!

The NCAA doesnt punish teams that win. Its OK to cheat and win. If you cheat and suck you make everyone look bad. Saban is the new Jimmy V. Everyone knows hes dirty, when will the NCAA do something about it?

It wasn't just the SEC, it was all the "good" programs who have an over abundance of quality players wanting to play for them. Ohio State and many other non SEC teams were doing the same thing.

I think they'll lose too many guys to make another run at the title next year. I'm almost positive they'll still finish in the top 10. They'll land in either the sugar bowl or capital one bowl. I'm thinking every SEC team is going to have at least 1 loss next year, and if oregon and ohio state can run the table, we might finally see a national title game without an SEC team shocked

Alabama is losing less than they lost last year. I can't think of anyone they are losing that can't be replaced by the Nick Saben recruiting machine.

Alabama will be in national championship contention all season again next year, you can take that to the bank.

Hardly jealousy there Big Dave...I've won two National Championships thru the play-off system.

Maybe you don't or care to understand the effects that over-signing may have on an 17-18 year old kid. I suggest you read up on it. Imagine if it happened to YOUR kid.

Programs, all across the country, have been hit with NCAA violations that have deemed their program ineligible for this and that. I find it hard to believe that the over-signing isn't at the top of that list. Nothing hurts a kid or family more than an institution backing out of a scholarship at the last minute...papers signed and all!

It's just plain wrong...unethical.

Alabama has done it...so have many other schools...doesn't make it right nor does it make it acceptable. IMO, the schools who have practiced this type of recruiting should delt with harshly.

You can disagree Big Dave...that's o.k. It's my opinion.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
