Will anyone even challenge Alabama this year (YES, Texas AM)....or next ? (Yes, Auburn & Oklahoma)

So with that, Oregon should move to #2. Or maybe even Florida.

At least they played ranked teams the last week of the season.

You should go back to cheering for the Gophers and South Dakota teams, you obviously know nothing about big time college football.

When Alabama was playing a ranked Michigan team the first game of the year Florida was playing Bowling Green.

The last 2 games of the season before the Florida State game, Florida played LA-Lafayette (who they only beat by 7 points) and Jacksonville State. Sounds like football powerhouses to me.

You keep trying to hang your hat on the Michigan game but they are, how did you put it..."overrated"?

The BCS is a "what have you done for me lately" system and Alabama hasn't done jack squat lately. There is no logical reason to reward them for their end of season cream puff schedule with a #2 ranking.

I bring that up because it was the 1st game of the season. Who else was playing a ranked opponent in week 1?

You actually believe that victories at the beginning of the season are worth more than at the end?

What kind of flawed logic is that? crazy

Why would I be jealous of Alabama? In fact, I don't care if it's Team X. My beef is with the flawed BCS.

Why don't you go back and read my prior posts? Hell, you even quoted it. crazy

You're sticking with Oregon or Florida? Now I know you either don't follow college football or don't understand it.

Or you could have said something slightly unique like Georgia since if they beat Alabama in the SEC championship game Georgia will most likely be playing ND for the national championship.

BTW, if you don't like the fact that Alabama played a cream puff last week then you should be furious with the fact that ND will be sitting idle playing NO ONE while teams like Alabama and Georgia have to play each other in a conference championship game. What will ND have done for you lately?

Well of course they do. Gotta keep the sec's BCS hype machine rolling.

I don't have a problem with Alabama/Georgia's schedule, or either team playing for the title. The winner of the SEC certainly deserves it. It would've been nice if kansas state or oregon could've stayed undefeated though, just to not have the SEC play for the national title for once.

Barely get by a second loss in their own conference. Arguably a top 5 team and now they get handed a cupcake for a championship. NCAA knows that the SEC butters their bread. Laughable that a month ago the talk was about them challenging a pro team.

Anyone who watched that game (or any conference championship game) and doesn't think a playoff system would be better than the current set up is nuts.

2 played 3 and now 1 plays 2, couldn't get much better with a play-off system.

You NFL fans are hilarious.

Playing the only undefeated team in College Football is a cupcake?

#2 Played #3, you don't think it should have been a close game?

Sure it could...we could have a playoff system.

It just happened to be that the #2 and #3 teams were playing against each other in a conference final. Many years this doesn't happen and is why there is always controversy with this subjective system that is in place now. How you cannot see that is just denial of the obvious.

I guess the answer to the original question is still NO!

what was the original question? I watched the game today and it sure looks to me like alabama got challenged.

that being said, I don't see nd beating the tide and agree that the tide is the best college team this year.

While I believe Alabama should beat Notre Dame, they sure won't run up and down the field uncontested like they did today. It's amazing that Georgia actually could have won the game at the end. Very poor play calling at the end there. I don't believe there is any doubt though, the 2 best teams will be playing each other for the national title.

So, you are saying that a play-off system will ensure that the 2 best teams in college football will ALWAYS play each other for a national title?

The answer to the original questions is Still - Texas AM not only challenged them but spanked them.

No matter who votes them into a title bowl they still are not as good a team as the are Aggies this year laugh

It's a shame they get away with not having to play them again. smile

It's the only way they get into a title game this year. a Beauty Queen Vote.

VOTED #2 and VOTED #3

AS far as I can tell the Aggies whipped the TIDE smile

They have bragging rights this season over the tide. Not the other way around. laugh

ALL of them "Imaginary Championships".

By the folks who bring you fairy tales laugh

It will be that way until they have a true play-off system

Even Minnesota has a bunch of those so does Harvard, Yale, etc.

LOL.

The proof is in the pudding Texas A&M SQUASHED the Tide BLOODY CRIMSON this year.

AND Texas A&M would do it again if they didn't have to contend with the fairy tale they call the BCS laugh

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
