Vikes vs Redskins

Overall I was impressed with RG3, I hadn't seen him play much until now. The only thing I worry about is the amount of punishment he'll take if he continues to run this much. The life span of a running back is pretty short in the NFL so I'm not sure why you'd want to put your QB into that position as often as they have thus far.

I agree. I couldn't believe how many plays they ran that looked like an option, but instead of pitching the ball he kept it and ran around the defensive end for a few yards. That seems especially risky considering he's coming off a concussion. He looks like a really dynamic quarterback, but I can't imagine him having a long career if they keep calling that many designed running plays for him.

Disappointed the Vikings lost, but I'm still happy with a 4-2 record at this point. We need to be more aggressive in the red zone and stop being satisfied with field goals. The game would have been much different with a TD or two instead of only being up 9-0 to start.

I also think that the Vikings needed to lose this game. It takes a loss like that to really make someone step back and ask what the heck were they doing. If they could of turned 2 of those early field goals into TD's, it might have been a different game. It just shows that they still have a long ways to go offensively. I had very low expectations for this game, and didn't even find myself upset that they lost. They just need to get their carp together and prepare for next week.

U mean the Deadskins? Shoulda put webb in at half time. We all seen the writing on the wall, Webb woulda showed RG3 how its done. prolly would ran for 100 yard and 2 tds himself. Ponders still a pimp tho. Hopfully we smoke the carneys at the dome. Ill be there bleedin purp.

Rg3 will end up with a season ending injury at some point in the next few years. Hopfully not career ending. Only fools run like that.

Why is it that NFL fans are so conditioned to think that QBs should not run the football? If RG3 would have been drafted as a runningback you would EXPECT him to carry the ball 20+ times per game. Whats the difference?

The game they needed to lose was the one LAST year against the Redskins. Not this one.

Theres a difference between NFL running backs and RG3. No way he can take those beating week after week.

How do you know what kind of beatings he can take?

RB's are a dime a dozen, they can be replaced fairly easily. And its a good thing becuase the average career length for a NFL running back is only a couple years.

A franchise QB is incredibly hard to find. The Redskins have been looking for one for years. Its the hardest position on the team to replace and usually the biggest drop in talent between starter and back up. If you want to run the ball 20 times a game then give it to a RB and figure out a blocking scheme that works.

Running your QB as much as the Redskins do is putting RB3's career at risk. And by risking his career you also risk the franchise itself since it could take you another 10-15 years to find another franchise QB. Who do you think gives the Redskinds the best chance of success, RG3 throwing the ball with the occasional run or any of the Rex Grossman like retreads the team has been putting out there the last several years?

If RG3 turns out to be like most running QBs he will only be effective when he is running anyway. I'm not sure that his pocket passing ability rivals Payton Manning or Brett Farve yet.

And I hate to tell you but running backs like Adrian Peterson are NOT a dime a dozen.

Not a dime a dozen but hard to figure them out some, thought McFadden and Chris Johnson were the real deal but they stink for some reason and it's not all o-line play, lol maybe it is. Beanie Wells, etc.

Dave, how many running QBs can you name that have had long and successful careers? He was only 5 games in when he got his 1st concussion, so I think we have a pretty good handle on what type of beatings he can take - like most human beings - not much.

On a side note, I forgot how much I can't stand watching Peyton Manning. I have him on my fantasy team, so I love what he produces. But watching him run up and down the line each play, waiving his arms around like his jersey is on fire, is incredibly annoying. Glad I only have to follow his stat line and not watch his games each Sunday.

The biggest difference is the fact that elite RB's are conditioned to take hits that would derail most freight trains out there.

Most elite QB's, even the running ones, are not. Ask Vick how his ribs feel. Ask Philly fans (or me, who had vick on the fantasy squad last year) how it feels to have a QB like that.

RG3 is not built like a running back. He is built like a QB. Put him in the backfield and run him up the gut 10 times, and do the same with AP. Who do you think wears out fastest? The guy built to throw the ball.

LOL, yeah he looks pretty soft to me.

None of those guys were consistently getting set running play specialized for them, except for Vick and Young both of which have had big injury problems. There's a difference between scrambling when the pocket collapses and running up the middle on the qb option.

RG3 - 6'2", 184 lbs.

Percy Harvin - 5'11", 184

I suppose Harvin can't run the ball either.

Its also been questioned whether Harvin can survive the pounding he takes week after week given his size.

I believe RG III is more like 220-225.

The Skins are idiots if they keep running him this way. He is MORE than capable of being a drop-back passer.

Vick and RGIII look like pretty good RB's to me. Steve Young wasn't bad either. But then again, maybe it was just their opponent that made them look good. wink

Looks like he is surviving better than Adrian Peterson so far.

Arian Foster - 6'1", 228

Maurice Jones-Drew - 5'7", 210

Ray Rice - 5'8", 212

LeSean McCoy - 5'11", 208

Chris Johnson 5'11" 191

Looks to me like if anything RG3 is over sized to be a running back.

Shamrock Landing and Grubens marina have both sold minnows/bait in past years, not sure about current season
    • SkunkedAgain
I am not aware of anywhere in the west basin to get minnows. Hopefully I am wrong.

The only place on the East end (unless i'm mistaken and don't know of some semi-secret place) that sells minnows on the lake is the Casino bait shop on Everett Bay. Whether they have rainbows is hit and miss. I'm not including Timbuktu as East side   Getting off-lake, the best value for rainbow for me over the last 10 years has been Lucky 7 in Virginia.

was up at the lake all week, water temps 65-66 today, and the crappies are now spawning. did not try for walleyes this week, but got my eye on a couple of lakes.

On the south end...   Good fishing this week with nice numbers of walleyes and saugers.   A jig and frozen emerald shiner again this week is the go to presentation for walleyes.  Rainbows and fatheads are also working and it is nice to see what the fish want each day.   Various areas across the south shore are holding fish.  Most walleyes and saugers are being caught in 17 - 24' of water.  Anglers are anchoring up and vertical jigging. A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.  Pound the bottom, jig it up in the strike zone, hold.  Trying shaking the jig and lifting it off of the bottom.  Any kind of weight will be a fish hanging.  Set the hook! A mixed bag while fishing walleyes include pike, jumbo perch and a few crappies.  On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes caught  this week on the river in 10 - 15' of water.  Typical spots such as holes, current breaks, weed edges and rocky areas all can hold fish.  There are 42 miles of navigable waters from the mouth of the river all the way to Birchdale.    Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st.   The river holds good numbers of smallmouth bass for those interested in bronzebacks.  A lot of bass are caught by unsuspecting walleye anglers. Up at the NW Angle...  A great week of fishing.  As typical with guests staying at the Angle, some fish MN waters, some slide over into Ontario waters.  Both areas are producing.     Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water have been holding walleyes.  With warming waters, fish are in transition and there are lots of fish.   The goto presentation is a jig and minnow.  Gold, glow white, pink and orange are good colors.

I don't fish any secret lakes. I research the lakes on the DNR website with good walleye numbers. I spent a lot of time learning side imaging. I'll scan for an hour or two if need be to find the fish. Nothing crazy for techniques. Either pitching a jig or back trolling with lindy rigs. If either of you two ever want to go let me know

Smurfy, you know where that Kettle guy fishes?  Might have to sneak over there! 🤫

nice fish bud!!!!!!!!👍 i was up last week and we had over 2 inches of rain.........but really helped the lakes!!!!!!!!!!
    • Kettle
So much rain these past few weeks. I only seem to get days off post cold front. Made the most of it recently. Water Temps still in the 50s. Not sure the crappies have even spawned, definitely not the bluegills. Walleye still really shallow
