Delmon Young

With his home run tonight, Delmon Young set the tigers' franchise record for most homers in the post season (6). How many more will he tack on to that record in these playoffs?

Depends on how far they go in the play offs.

Just another Twin doing well that ia no longer with us.

Kyle Loshe and JJ Hardy are a few more doing preety good with play off teams. That list could go on and on with the players we have left go and now are doing well enough to play on champion contending teams.

Give me a break....Delmon Young was boo-ed out of here by

the Twins fans...come up with some better line then he

is another in the mix of ex-Twins doing well.

It took Lohse how many years after he left the Twins to

start to look like a pitcher...another one most fans boo-ed out

of here...

He hit five of them last year. Talk is, he won't be back next year. No place for him, with V-Mart back in as DH. Young is no longer adequate in the outfield. Not sure he was ever anything more than mediocre on defense.

Delmon is really just a dh with is poor defense, although still not sure why teams don't just put him back out in rf his spot that he came up to the bigs because lf is not good for him at all. He's probably destined to become someone's dh next year if not with the tigers.

He, like quite a few former twins is better off on a different team. The gardy/vavra slap it the opposite way hitting mentality just doesn't cut it for some players. And for others, (this year's likely cy young winner), they just didn't get used properly with the twins. And yet for others who had just a little bit of attitude or brashness, they just didn't fit the role of the vanilla type that gardy prefers so they are doing better where they are allowed to be themselves. It's unfortunate given the current state of the twins, but that's reality and sounds like it will remain that way for at least one more year.

Harvey is right. Many players leave here and do well. And what does the fans booing players have to do with anything? Most fans in the stands couldn't name you 1/2 the players. Twins fans boo players who come back playing for another team after they were TRADED. They didn't choose to leave. It's team management that cuts them loose. Good for Delmon.

The way things are looking right now, he's gonna be a former twin with a world series ring.

This.

Delmon wasn't the first hitter to leave and suddenly start hitting home runs. As long as Gardy is here, he won't be the last.

That is my main complaint about Gardy, the swing to contact no matter what mentality. That doesn't work with hitters like Young who's forte is hitting them out of the park. It ruins players like that.

Good for Delmon for getting away from Gardy to somewhere else where he is allowed to swing.

I'm surprised Gardy hasn't ruined Plouffe yet with this nonsense.

bwahaahaa.

delmon's career high for homeruns = 21, and it was with.... wait for it.... the twins.

In my family Delmon's knickname is "Shuffle Boots" the dude can't run like lol. Gardy aint telling a slow runner to become a slap hitter is he ? I think Willingham has filled in quite well in left. We gained when Delmon left the way it looks now.

Delmon hasn't been doing any better with the Tigers then he did with the Twins. The guy hit .298 and had 112 RBI's in 2010. Yea a couple timely homers and hits in the playoffs, but his season totals are no better. Plus we got Willingham our most productive hitter in left now.

I miss sitting in the LF seats and rooting for Delmon. He'd somehow catch one and we'd cheer, "Way to go, Grandma!!" We figured it had to get under his skin, but I guess he must have been able to see the future. Miss you, Grandma...

That could be the most absurd comment I've ever heard in the baseball forums considering Delmon hit more homeruns with the Twins in a much tougher park to hit bombs then he has with the Tigers! crazy

Also 2 home-runs and a .300 average does not make one the next Babe Ruth.

That being said I think Delmon is in the perfect place. DH-ing behind 2 of the best hitters and OBS players in the league. With Delmon you just keep him out of fair territory and hope he hits one of his hot streaks when you need it. He's always hand great hand eye coordination and the talent to hit the ball. It's just the rest of the total package that has held Delmon back from being the ALL STAR, strike that multiple ALL STAR Player that a lot of you predicted.

But now its Gardys fault... LMAO!

Maybe he laid off the sauce since his NYC incident early in the year, definitely easier to hit sober or not hungover, then again hungover can be ok at times lol.

No doubt Joe M. 35 post season AB's, 1 RBI, some guys can step up at the right time in the post-season and some guys know they should be and they don't. Every guy swinging the stick has a chance. Shuffleboots and the boys going to cap off the yanks with the broom waving ?

when i seen delmon rounding the bases last night after his solo shot... i couldn't help but think how embarrassing it must be for a franchise like the tigers to have a guy like delmon young have the franchise record for post season hr's.

lol, wow no doubt how about Lance Parrish or Kirk Gibson or I guess it's the D train, shuffleboots, I bet he also set a record on that trot for most choppy steps from the box to the plate lol. Wonder if Dmitri is in the stands inhaling dome dogs etc. dripping mustard down an old Tiger jersey, purchasing 2 seats so he has room for 2 drinks and an extra layer and styling gel for his dreds.

a superstar he ain't but he's just done something no twin or recent ex twin has done in getting mvp for alcs. And he's the first player ever to have 4 game winning rbi's in a playoff series. that ain't bad for a bum player who wasn't wanted on a 99 loss team last year. I'd like to see the tigers get the championship this year.

The cardinals' pitching is going to mop the floor with D-yo. You heard it here first, one of the bit stories of the world series is "how the heck could Delmon Young have such a great start to the playoffs, only to collapse so hard?"

This is Twin fannage right here. 'Our team is better without your ALCS MVP. He's no good. OK he might have done good this time, but next time hes gonna suck.' Probably he will suck. Because usually everyone does suck. Thats why they give an award when you DONT SUCK. You guys have been harping on how bad Delmon is for over a year. Can you not see hes been a valuable player on a team thats won the division two yrs in a row? How crazy are you people? I come to the baseball forum everyday to get reminded I am sane.

ALCS MVP? Sweet! Detroit did what the Twins never could and that's knock of the mighty Yankees. Good Luck to Delmon Young and the rest of the Tigers in the World Series!

First off, I don't have the time to follow the stats so it took me a while to get around to looking it up. That said, I'm proud to be nominated for a preposterous statement. Too bad it's true though.

As a Twin, you pick out Delmon's anomaly year of 21 home runs to purport his greatness as a Twin. Delmon's average as a twin was less than 14 HR's per year. And I excluded his first year which would have lowered this stat even more while including the banner 21 year.

But the HR stat is a function of playing time and at bats so let's look at games played each year per home run. A lower number would mean more HR's per playing time.

As a Twin, he hit a HR about every 12.99 games played (including the odd 21 year, excluding his first year).

In the year and a third as a Tiger he hits a home run every 6.69 games played.

Next lets look at the year he was traded.

84 games played and count them, 4 home runs.

Put on a Tigers uniform and hits 8 HR's in the next 40 games.

Secondly, I didn't blame Gardy. I said it is his management style. It's the way he coaches. Under that style, a HR hitter is not needed. Mauer is a perfect fit for Gardy's style of baseball because neither of them are looking for the long ball. They just want on base percents through the roof.

So yeah, good for Young to be able to play for a team that will let him swing for the fences more often.

I always get a kick out of "he's getting nothing to hit" if you're not then take a walk, the plate dimensions haven't changed, here comes a heavy dose of curveballs tonight Delmon, Zito is going wow ? Big Park Barry so you have a shot, somehow I picture Prince splashing 1 in the ocean vs lefty tonight or not.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
