Shooting peep and pin with both eyes open?

I want to learn to do this. I currently shoot with my left eye closed and shoot fairly well, but I want to change to having both eyes open for better field vision. I would really appreciate any pointers and tips to change this over. Thanks in advance for any help!

Got a BB gun start there..22 maybe practice with small cheap ammo,When you think its easy move on up.I was lucky I was taught as a kid to keep both eyes open. Now even with my bow,I have the large field of view.

Just do it!!

Just start practicing. Start by lining it up with the left eye closed then open it. At first you will probably see too sets of pins as you are focusing down range while lining up the pins, after some practice, you will automatically focus on the right set and eventually not see the other set at all. I would also start on a target that has colored rings to help focus on the sight and target with both eyes open. It might be frustrating at first, but in time it will become natural. I taught myself about 10 years ago when I had a nice buck in front of me and kept losing it when I closed my left eye. I don't have that problem any more. It is very natural to keep both eyes open now.

Is it true that if you shoot right handed you have to also be right eye dominant to shoot with both eyes open? I ask because I am right handed but my left eye is dominant and I have always had a hard time shooting with both eyes open.

It's definitely tougher to do so if your dominant eye is not the same as your dominant hand. My buddy is right handed but shoots left handed when using a shotgun because he is left eye dominant

With a bow I think it would be nearly impossible to shoot with both eyes open if shooting opposite of eye dominance. I am the same way I shoot right handed but left eye dominate. Rifle or bow I can not focus properly with both eyes open shooting right handed.

I taught myself to shoot right or left handed with the rifle, very nice for hunting, alot less movement in the tree and very comfortable.

Look into one of the many different peep-less options out there (Perrys no peep, peep eliminator, etc etc.)

This will allow you to shoot with both eyes open, making low light shots much easier.

You will never use a peep again! smile

Im kinda mixed up, I shoot right handed with a gun an write right handed, but throw left handed an have a left hand dominance but am right eye dominate that why i shootgun right handed, But wanted to shoot bow left handed cause of left hand dominance but had to learnt to shoot right handed cause i an right eye dominate. Weired i know. So I shoot right handed now with both eyes open. When i pick up a bow to this day i have atendency to start drawing left handed an "Oh yea cant do that"

@hookjunior:

Eye dominance is just like handedness.. Nature vs. Nurture arguments find evidence for both claims.

Many people will say shoot with your dominant eye and not against it.

I argue that training your "dumb" eye is just like training your "dumb" hand. Both can be done.

To train yourself to use your "dumb" eye with both eyes open, you'll need to understand parallax vision and figure out which image of a double-image to focus on mentally. I do some dumb-eye training and make use of parallax vision when shooting my blowgun. I'm pretty eye-ambidextrous.. if that makes sense.

A bit off topic, but I think many children could do without handedness reinforcement from parents, and instead be encouraged to learn to use both sides of their bodies to perform every task and motion in life.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
