New to Powderhorn Lake in Mpls

Recommended Posts

My son, an avid angler, is moving into an apartment near Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis. Does anyone have any feedback on this lake and whether it is worth fishing? Ice fishing feedback is also welcome.

Thanks

Well when I grow up down there you could get Bullheads, Carp, big Gold fish and lots of Turtles! Big snappers! crazy Hopefully they cleaned it up and added something worth fishing for in the last 30 years? smile

I have heard Powderhorn is full of stunted bluegills and crappies.

Calhoun and Harriet are less than 3 miles away from Powderhorn - both offer excellent fishing, both open and hardwater. Isles and Cedar are great as well. I'd focus on that chain if I was living in the area

Nokomis and Hiawatha to the Southeast about the same or a little less. All better for fishing than Powderhorn.

Powderhorn is fed almost completely by street runoff, and without the aerators would have an annual winterkill.

Though this is a Fishing in the Neighborhood water, about the only fish it offers year around are little bullheads and the occasional channel cat. With the aerators this small body can also have treacherous ice. There are far better fishing waters close by.
