Well no fishing on the river or lake near Duluth. How's it looking up towards Two Harbors, Island lake and Fish and whatnot? All mud there too?

It appears from the MNDOT 511 site that 33 is now open all the way. Is that true?

Here is a link to the water flow at the dam in Scanlon. Very hard to fathom 43500 gallons a second crazy

Stats for the Scanlon Dam

The unit the USGS uses is CFS(cubic feet per second). There are 0.133680556 cubic feet in a gallon. So its even harder to imagine 43,500 cfs a second!

OK...I had no idea what the conversion was, so it was google to the rescue.

Answer: 43200 ft³ = 323158.441 gal(US Liq)

OR 323158 gal(US Liq) and 3.53 pt (US Liq)

That is a lot of gallons.

Another way to think about it.

A block of water that is:

35 ft tall, 35 ft long, and 35ft wide...PER SECOND!

. This may be the end of the season for the walleye on the river.

We were discussing this yesterday and we also think that the River is done for the year. First, the flow has to slow down. Then it will take a while for that mud to settle

This video was taken at the entrance of Mount Du Lac ski area on Hwy 23. You can barely see the bridge in the distance. The marks on the road were there to show were the water was at a certain time.

Im sure hoping the river will be fishable by late July or Aug but the fish will be long gone into the lake or up on dry land when this settles. lol. I hope it comes back sooner than I think and I hope the fish survived this mess. This years spawning will be a bust Im sure.

This was taken from Hwy 45 between Scanlon and Carlton. There is usually a couple of pot holes with some water. In the spring there will be some run off from the river that will come in for a couple of days if we have a good amount of snow.

Hunterlaker, wow.

Talked with a neighbor in Twig last week, he was going to have a modular home delivered to his Hunter Lake lot. I hope that delivery got delayed. Also a friend has a home about 1 mile from the 23 bridge.

Very high water at Whiteface Reservoir. There is 4-6 inches of water running over Blais Road. Skunk Creek is within a couple inches of the top of the bridge.

Frank have you talked to him since the flood. I drove by there, actually had to walk, and it was bad.

The guy on Hunter lake is high and dry.

I left a message with Rick from Chambers Grove and haven't heard back yet.

By the reports I've been hearing it sounds like it was flooded.

Just got back from Knife River, and there's a hazard danger on the beach. Since the water treatment plant got flooded, all the "content" got dumped out, and the DNR posted a sign that the beach might be contaminated with Ecoli bacteria. They recommended to stay away from it, but the sign got removed from somebody.

Also apparently there's a 500 gallon propane tank floating in the lake, still full, and it's mostly submerged, so it's not very visible. It came from the French River.

Lots of stuff in the lake, beware everybody.

My mom saw a dock, countless trees with roots and tons of logs floating in the river this past weekend. It will be a sigh to see the Duluth 500 after the fireworks on the 4th. it amazes me to see the boats going 40mph across the bay to beat the traffic at the launch.

I'm not sure but he said he was on the hill so I'm assuming the West side.

I had a lot of good times there at the Camp Benkowski(sp).

Sad to hear it isn't being used and hasn't been for a long time.

I drove over the Cloquet river (Taft Rd) yesterday. Wow it is still still way up.

I have many great memories of Camp Benkoski as well. Sorry to hear it isn't being utilized.

It was a lot bigger back then, Frank. Remember doing the mile swim merit badge there. Thought I was gonna die swimming around that whole lake.

Red & White Daredevil under big red & white bobber still works for me.

Wonder what happened to the library at HQ?

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
