NHL playoffs

Here is a good pic I found. The leg is out a little but like I said, our legs are under our shoulders so what can you do about it. Clearing shoulder on shoulder contact, it was a little odd the way things came together but it still looks like a pretty clean hit.

I thought it was a clean hit. Brown was committing to the hit and went shoulder to shoulder (and not the head) and Phoenix player turned.

OK, that angle looks much better. Looks like he was leading with his shoulder into the Phoenix players shoulder while the Phoenix player turned.

The late hit just cost Phx the championship. Yes I said it, they could have beat LA and everyone else without the 25 game suspension and the junk hit that may cost a player his career. We are calling for an all out ban of Dustin Brown for the hit. I think the picture here says it all. a>

I sure enjoyed that view the dozen or so times they showed it during the game. wink

No wonder they lost, Tippett was clearly distracted. LA must have sent in an under cover fan to keep him occupied.

So who wins it all? I'm going with New Jersey in 7.

I think LA looked a little more beatable in those last 2 games with Phoenix. Now if LA starts looking like they did early in the playoffs I think they win it. I was pulling for LA but Lou says that the Wild has a better chance of landing Parise if NJ wins the cup.

With that.....GO DEVILS!!!!

Yup kind of leaning devils myself, I still figure it's a long shot we land parise but what the heck.

I only saw the first and from about 10 mins left in the third and OT. LA looked to be controlling the play pretty good while I was watching.

NJ was hanging on for dear life in the second half of the third. OT was fairly even. I want NJ to win for selfish reasons, but I do like seeing #8 seeds win it, so I'm torn.

Really, I don't think we're getting Parise. We need to be better before we can start really getting into those top end FAs.

LA is 14-2 in the playoffs, that is a little insane right there. Not sure I can find a way NJ comes back in this one.

15-2 now. Quick is just in a league by himself right now. They need to make the net bigger on one end so NJ can score.

Glad LA scored 3 more after the first one. I really thought Brodeur had that first one covered long enough. Turns out to be a moot point since NJ can't beat Quick.

It's about time to talk about the FA and then hope there is a next season.

Our slim chance of getting Parise this offseason is getting slimmer by the game.

I know, its what we're all thinking. Once they made it to the Cup finals though, I think we were screwed either way. Come this close and lose and he will want to try again. Win it all and they would do everything they could to keep him.

Couple of articles I've read said there was 0% chance we'd get him if they win the Cup. But the only guy who really knows is #9.

Whats the difference, we get Parise and its like having 2 Kiouvu's. I just dont see it with Parise, Not worth the money. Hes not a super star.

LA has proven that you can buy the cup...they have been in a league of their own all play offs.

I'm with sscsavre on this one. I think he's a very good player that will be commanding GREAT player money on the open market.

Kind of the same way I feel about Suter. I think he's good but life will get a lot harder when he's not paired with Weber.

If I had to pick one of the two I would take Suter every time, we need a stud D in a bad bad way. With that said I would still love to have Parise on our roster as long as its not some crazy number. He just scored 31 goals and 69 points after a major knee injury, before that he put up 82 and 94, that is star material to me. He likely never breaks 90 again but I could see him up near 80 for several more seasons. He has also scored at least 31 goals in the past 5 years he was not injured, only 4 guys broke the 40 goal mark this year so those 30 goal scorers are worth their weight in gold these days. Sad but true.

Our top scoring guy, Heatley, ranked #81 in the NHL in pts. Put Parise on the line with Koivu and Heatley and you'd have something. I'll TAKE him.

I think Parise returns to a 75+ point guy too.

NJ guts out a 3-1 with an ENer at the end. I missed the first two perios so I am not really sure who was playing better. Next game should be fun, LA is 10-0 on the road this post season. That might be a record that is never broken, especially if they win in NJ.

I'm actually happy the Devils won last night. I was out fishing, so I didn't get to see it.

I have to be honest, I only tuned in on time to see if the cup was coming out. I was lucky enough to catch all 4 goals and go to bed early. Win win!

My plan backfired tonight, tuned in late to see the Kings up 4-0 and 21 minutes away from the cup.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
