For the first round I'll go with:

Rangers

Boston

Devils

Philly

LA

Blues

Blackhawks

Preds

I think the Preds have a shot to make it to the finals. They win on defense, and if they can score timely goals, they'll go far.

The penguins were beating them earlier. Looks like I miss a nice comeback.

It was just back and forth all game. Great scoring chances every minute. Final score 8-5 Flyers, but it was closer than that.

Pitt is just falling apart. How can you allow 2 shorties in 1 game?

2 Flyers players got hat tricks tonight. You don't see that too often.

Over 70 penalty minutes in the 1st period today! These games have been beyond entertaining. Hope the Pens can pull off a win or two just so I can keep watching this series.

Bigfoot and aliens. You hear about them but never ever see them.

Can't say I am sad about Vancouver being down 3-0 to LA.

I would like to see STL advance as well as NSH. Out east, I guess I don't really care as much. Looks like the flyers are for sure going to round 2, but now that I've typed that I bet PIT will pour it on.

Kind of fun to look at all those traditional winning teams in the west all down 3-1 in their respective series.

LA, Phoenix, Nashville, and St Louis

Go them!

The Pitt and Philly series started great but now the refs won't put there whistle down. Let the players play.

I'd like to see the devils reach the conference finals so the Wild can pick up an extra 3rd rounder from them. I would also like for them to get swept 4-0 and beaten so badly that Parise is disgusted with his team and signs with the Wild in the off season. That can happen right?

Yeah, I'd be ok with NSH or STL making it to the Finals. I just don't want PHO, PHI, LA, NYR, or NJ to win it. I would be ok with WAS if I have to pick a team from the east.

Lots of teams I don't like in the mix still mad

GO PREDS!

Oh yeah - Radulov is crazy good.

I was saying last week. I wish we ahd Radulov, he is like a good version of Bouchard.

Go Preds and Blues.

That Caps/Rangers was one of the most entertaining I've seen in awhile. Hopefully the Devils will win one tonight.

What are the chances any Wild fans are pulling for the Rangers since there's a former Wild player(Gaborik) playing? grin

I personally want the Caps in that one.

So did anyone see LA and Phoenix coming? Can't cheer for any NY teams so I guess Caps win by default. I didn't see NJ doing much this year either but if they win one more game we pick up an extra 3rd rounder.

This is kind of way off topic but I figured I would post it here since its kind of NHL related. The "other" tournament (Word Hockey Championships) is being played right now. The big countries have mostly NHL players so the competition is pretty good but no where near Olympic levels. Anyway it should be noted that a pretty ok USA team beat a more talented Canada 5-4 a few days back. Go usa!

Also Grandlund (top Wild Prospect) has assisted on Finlands only two goals in two games played so far. This tournament skyrocketed his status last year when he put up 9 points in 9 games against some pretty good competition. Including this beauty against Russia in the semi's. Finland won Gold last year.

Sadly I have not been watching much of the NHL playoffs this year. Just really busy right now.

Question for the Rubes though. What effect with NJ getting into the finals have on Zach Parise's situation? Will they still let him walk in free agency? Lots of talk before about the Wild making a push, any more recent discussion in this area?

Same boat as you, haven't watched much of the playoffs this year. I haven't heard anything new on Parise. I think we will just have to wait it out and see. This is pure speculation on my part but a strong push to the finals might have him thinking about sticking around NJ. Maybe he already knows what he is going to do and is just going to let things play out this summer. This might be a long shot but if he wins a titles he might be ready to come home. I think he will text the free agent market and listen to a few offers so we should have a chance to make our pitch.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
