It sounds like the Redwings will make a push to get Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. They have the dollars to do it too. I hope he reigns with the Devils but I don't see the Wild doing it.

I have been able to watch and I can tell you the way he is playing his price will be high. His motor is running fast and no coasting from him.

I was thinking the same thing on Parise. NJ has more cap space than the Red Wings so they will probably have a good chance of resigning him now.

Detroit has to make a D-man their priority if Lidstrom is done. Suter and Parise will probably command 8M/year which would only leave Detroit 4M to fill out their roster. Seems like it might be tough to do.

It's sad that both NJ and Detroit have more cap space than the Wild. THANK YOU DR!!!!

We will be ok Archerystud, lots of $$$ coming off the books after next season too so we have some flexability. If we can even land 1 big fish I will be super happy. That might not happen but a boy can dream right.

Nice link with our Cap situation in table form over the next few years. Looks like we have almost $19 mil in cap space for next season. BTW, there are STILL 2 years left on Mark Parrish's buyout. What I wouldn't give to be that guy.

Cap Geek link thingy

Detroit and New Jersey both have $21 or 22 million cap space. But Parise and Lidstrom are both UFA's, both currently making $6M+, so they should have less money to offer than we do. I guess we hope Parise wins the Cup and then wants to move home.

I know we will be okay moving forward. It just seems sad that we couldn't make the playoffs and still don't have as good of a cap situation. Will be nice to get PBM and GL off the books and spend that money on something which can stay on the ice. Would be nice to lower the goalie hit a little bit when Back is done as well.

So I'm guessing Parish just has to play in the minors or something to make that money. Must be nice indeed!

Remember the years when we spent to the cap and still stunk up the ice?

I still kind of dream of Lats staying healthy and scoring goals for us again. Bouchard is just damaged goods, really too bad because when he is on he was good.

Parrish doesn't have to play at all. I believe he gets the money no matter what he does or where he plays.

To avoid feeling guilty, he probably plays pick up games on outdoor rinks with 9 year olds. In the off season he could play one of these. I mean you gotta support your family and make a decent living.

Right now I think the Kings look really tough to beat which is good. I don't want to see Gabby win a cup and if Parise wins one he might be more inclined to stay at NJ. Although just making the conference finals probably gives NJ a better chance to keep him.

Yeah, the Kings are looking unbeatable. I also think the Rangers takes there series with the Devils.

I would rather see the Devils win it. Maybe then Parise won't be as inclined to try go get with a cup contender next year, which we won't be. Also, Tortorella bugs me.

I'm torn with the Kings. It's LA, but then again, the other choice is Phoenix. The teams still in it are making it hard for me to watch.

Tortorella(Rangers coach) is a hot head. I don't like him either. Devils got the win last night. its 1-1 series. Go Devils but if I had money it would be on the Rangers. BC alum Kris Krieder is looking good since going pro a month ago. I think he had one of the three stars for the game in there loss.

Me too. They also have Gabby and it's NY so of all the teams left I don't want them to win the most. NJ has had a couple cups recently so I really don't want them to win either.

LA just looks like they can man handle anyone right now. I do think they are the team to beat. However, most of these games are one goal games so anyone can win it all.

Tortorella needs to grow up a little bit. The post game press talk behavior is just childish. I understand he's passionate about the game but have some decency. I remember doing the same thing during the 04' playoffs with the lightning.

I also think LA is looking pretty unstoppable right now. I have a hard time rooting for any of the teams at this point but I think LA is the team to beat.

"Tortorella needs to grow up a little bit."

I 100% agree with this.

Also, I think Phoenix is an overall dirty team. I've got no problem with player who play physically, but some of the carp they pull is a shame. Pretty much that and being an 8th seed are why I would pull for LA.

Tortella is a little fuct sh!t bastard. Who does he think he is waving his finger at the Devils coach during tonights game. I can't wait to hear is press conference statement after this game. Gawd I hate the Rangers

He would look better in red and green wink Probably not going to happen, though.

Yeah Parise is great but I don't think the Wild land him either. I think the Wild will land one/two higher end FA and then build with them and the new young guns coming up. I see them getting 1 or 2 $4-5M/year players and then filling out the rest of the roster.

At least the future is looking brighter unlike it did in the past. Gotta get Granlund signed before June 1 but it sounds like they are close.

Have to pull for NJ first, only because I have some false hope that if Parise wins a title he might be ready to come home to play. Next LA, 8th place team, beat all the top seeds and playing great hockey, whats not to like. If NY wins I will puke! sick

LA or Jersey would be fine in my book. Don't like the Rangers either.

Granlund just signed this morning. 3 year for $2.7m. $90k annual signing bonus.

Interesting ending to last night's game. The refs were making some borderline calls against LA in overtime, then the injury, then the game winner. Decent hockey at the end. Good for the Kings.

The late hit just cost Phx the championship. Yes I said it, they could have beat LA and everyone else without the 25 game suspension and the junk hit that may cost a player his career. We are calling for an all out ban of Dustin Brown for the hit. I think the picture here says it all. a>

Coyote's remind me of the Sioux, cheapest team out there but man they sure complain about any borderline hit against them.

Browns hit wasnt bad. He didnt change any direction to hit the guy. You saw him coming from 10 feet away. I dont know how many times I saw Brown get cheapshotted that series. Not a terrible hit.

Have to agree, the Brown hit wasn't bad at all. He led with his shoulder, legs happen to be under ones shoulder. wink There really wasn't a knee on knee there either, more like leg on leg as he put the shoulder into him.

Oh come on now, if that were your team you all would be saying the same thing. laugh Did you even look at the picture???

The angle I saw the hit, it looked like knee on knee. It looked like Brown has hit leg out during the hit. I don't think it looked legal (from the angle I saw), but the guy shouldn't be tarred and feathered either.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
