What does Gamakatsu or TMC have for a super strong light wire hook? I know that's a conflicting idea. I really want a lighter hook that won't give under the weight. You might have already answered my question with the hook suggestions. I will look into all of them this week and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the suggestions and patterns too. I tie some up and try them.

I'll see if I can find a pic of my bastardized version of the Carp Carrot. I did not create this fly, I simply tried to recreate it with the material I had on hand. It's worked great for sight fishing, not as good as the GP for blind casting (which also works great for sight fishing too!).

Found a few good pics:

Wapsi Large Bead Chain Eyes

Couple wraps of .030" Lead

Hareline Woolhead Dubbing (wrapped in a loop)

Soft Hackle (what ever your favorite type is)

I've tied these in olive, blond, and blondish reddish flash. All have caught carp. Olive seems most effective so far. I would LOVE is Hareline would come out with a rust colored version of the Woolhead dubbing. That stuff is awesome.

Very cool. I was hoping to get up to the shore this fall, but I just don't think it's gonna happen this year. Hey, I've got plenty more to get up there!

From what I understand the pink salmon run is a very short lived ordeal. So I guess it's really all about timing. If I'm wrong, I would appreciate the salmon/steelhead guys clearing it up for me. The pinks were thick and very very fun! I recommend trying it at least once.

Crazy!!

Only times I've seen salmon stacked like that anywhere (for me, only in AK), I was in the remotest fishing location I've ever been, or I've been somewhere protected from fishing.

You're alive!!!! Where have you been?

Haha, I moved to OKC at the beginnign of August. Broke another 9 weight, and mainly only have hybrids to show for it. Gotta admit, I've been pretty quiet.

OKC? Man, I hope you don't mean Oklahoma City. I've been there, way too close to Texas. Been to Texas too, not good.

Sorry about the 9. Do you have a warranty?

I'll claim victory on this contest. Crafty was right behind me, way to go Donny!!!!!

It was nice meeting some of you and the exchange of ideas and experiences.

We'll see if this happens in 2013. I hope it does....

because to be brutally honest, I have enjoyed dominating this from the start and finding out who really knows fly fishing.
