Anyone use Taste of the wild food?

Yes. This is one of the better, if not the best, dog foods on the market. We have a rescue German Shepherd with skin and coat problems, and this food is the only one we have tried that seems to help those issues.

It is more expensive, but as with many things, you get what you pay for. I would recommend this dog food to anyone.

I've got a dog that is allergic to everything and Taste of the Wild is the only thing he doesn't have loose stool on.

I have my vizsla on TOTW as well and he does great on it.

After letting people pet my dog when out on walks I've actually had more than 1 person ask me what sort of supplements I give him to keep his coat so soft and shiny. When I tell them all he gets is kibble they are shocked.

I think I pay $40-42 for a 30 pound bag but I'm paying about the same as I was before when I was using a cheaper food since he doesn't need as much food each day. I also buy it from Chuck and Dons and if you get on their mailing list they often have coupns for $5-10 off a purchase of $50 or more so if you buy 2 bags you're paying under $40/bag.

Hmmm...I've always wondered about these kinds of foods. I pay $36 at Fleet Farm for a 30-pound bag of Purina High Performance. Remy seems to like it, and I've never had any problems.

But I wouldn't mind experimenting with foods like Taste of the Wild, especially in the off season. That way there'd always be time to switch him back if it didn't work out.

It's one of the brands that doesn't give our dog bad gas. We like it a lot. He's "just" a mutt, but we don't buy the cheapest food out there.

Shiny coat, healthy thumbs' up from the vets regularly, and a much less stinky household compared to the other brand we were using.. TOTW dog food gets a nod from us.

Their cat food leaves much to be desired however, was kinda disappointed.

Moved to it about a year ago. My brittany has a very thin, dry coat and itches a lot. It wasn't a miracle food but I can definitely tell the difference. Coat is silky now. Still itches but not nearly as bad. I feed about 2/3 of what I did in Purina Pro Plan so figure that in the price. Stools are a lot smaller and always firm - probably the biggest change. If my dog didn't have coat issues I'd still be on PPP. If you're ever at the Game Fair, stop by and talk to the reps. You can learn a lot.

This is funny because my roommate went to a bulk pet supply store in Shakopee tonight and came home with TOTW. He inquired about food and the person working steered him in the TOTW direction. Good choice!

Did a quick search and found out its sold at about a half dozen places in the FM area. Will definitely check it out the next time Remy's food supply is getting low! Thanks for the tips.

I use Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. It is a limited ingrediant dog food that gives my boy firm stools instead of the runs. It sounds similar to TOTW and all pet places carry it.

My lab couldnt handle TOTW for some reason. She threw up quite regularly on it. My vet had me switch to Science diet and although it makes me sick looking at the ingredients list(corn corn and more corn), the dog does much better on it and I guess shes the one that I need to listen to.

my weimaraner was the opposite of your lab MNpurple. She was sick, throwing up and bad gas and losing weight from the Science Diet. We switched to the TOTW (bison and fish versions) and she's done great. Maintained her weight and her coat looks great. Less cleanup as well, so that's a bonus.

We have used TOTW for about 3 years. Dogs coat is very soft and less stool then the cheap stuff. She is a 30lb French Brit and we only have to feed her about 1 cup a day.

Don't fret about corn being in the food. If your dog handles it well, and is in good physical shape, then by all means continuing using it. It's not that they can't digest it at all, it does have some nutritional value... 2o years ago it would have been almost impossible to find a food without corn in it.

WIth today's mentality that we CANNOT have corn or grains in our dog food, they should have become extinct long ago based on feeding their old diets, before we humans got "wise" wink enough to feed them ultra premium, well marketed, expensive alternatives!

I feed 'Naturals' (no corn or wheat or soy) for the past 3 years, but can honestly say it's probably more for my good than the dogs... fed the original label of this particular brand for a decade (has corn in it) and honestly I'm not sure the dogs are doing any different...

Good Luck!

Corn may not be as foreign to a dog's diet as some might believe. Chances are the dogs Native Americans had probably snitched some as a result of corn in their diet. After having Labs growing up and one of my own for many years, one of the things that always amused me was how much they liked eating corn. About the time it reached roasting ear stage, each one of these dogs would head to the corn field. They'd uproot a plant and drag it back up into the lawn then devour the corn off the ears, sometimes several stalks worth a day. Didn't matter if it was field corn or sweet corn although Dad had some issues with it when they got into his sweet corn. The wife just didn't like the mess it made in the yard. Me? Run over it a couple times with the lawn mower and the silage disappears. grin With the Border Collies, it's a little different in that they'd rather pick the corn out of the sheep feed as it's chewy, high moisture corn. They are more into multi-tasking, able to watch the sheep and snack at the same time. There's a reason there are frequently kernels of corn in the dog turds at the ranch: They like it!

I still feed Diamond Performance and after watching Ruby this past weekend moving ewes and lambs, I ain't changing anything. I should probably try it as she has a lot more energy than I could ever dream of having. smile

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
