I am heading up to Morris Point on January 12th to the 15th. I am wondering if we will be able to drive out on the lake and do the resorts have their houses out, or if we should think about bringing portables and four wheelers. I plan on calling up there before I come up but looking for other opinions. Has anyone been out fishing out of Morris Point. Any info people can give would be great. thank you very much.

Talked to a couple of guys in town who were going out of Morris on ports and sled and they said they did pretty good. Don't know if trucks were let out of there this weekend. We went out of Zipple and they were letting out trucks only so far. We did good on fish.

Two friends of mine were on Morris Point (yes i still have 2 friends left) laugh last week while I was over Pine Island. the resort had their houses out. They were not driving out lst week, the resort was transporting them. They had a decent bite on Wed and a great bite on Thursday. Hope this helps.

My gut feeling would be no. I was up there three times last week. They have really nice, smooth ice. I fished in 3 different spots and would say the ice was anywhere between 12 to 15 inches. We used a wheeler to pull my 6 x 12 out with no issues. Temps are suppose to be in the 30's the rest of the week and with all the anglers out there because of other areas with bad ice I don't think it will be the week the let trucks out. Hopefully I am wrong. Fishing's been good. Have fun.

Kettle, sounds like an awesome trip. Never see drake bluewings in MN during the season. For the bridge my pucker factor would've been 11, and that's walking across both ways!!

I did the looper steelhead thing in front of the French River once.  It was fun. I got one looper but the sight fishing aspect of it was the most fun.   We saw a couple guys limit on steelhead up close to shore and learned the black fly was the way to catch ‘em.  We didn’t have any.   My first 40+ hour day that I can remember.  Went to work Friday morning, Van Halen concert Friday night, too jacked up on the way home to call it a day so we loaded up for the North Shore.  Fished all day, drove home Saturday night.     Those crazy kids…   Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands have always been a want but an undone deed.  The wander spirit has faded from my old traveling buds.  They like to stick to what they know now.

About 20" of ice in Black Bay., although that's just based on how far my auger went before breaking through.

Their breast meat is a little more than teal, very light in color. Similar to the color of meat of a sharp tail grouse. They do taste quite good for waterfowl
