Esquagamah Lake

Recommended Posts

Looking at a couple cabins on this lake but have no info on the lake and DNR website is down due to the Gov. shutdown. If anyone has any info, fishing reports, recreational info, or any sort of knowledge of the lake it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

me too...North west side is very "redneckish"...looks very run down. South side a better but more compact. ATV trails and public land nearby and easy to get to from the cabin if on the south side. Fishing is "not to bad." 2 very close lakes and round has some good walleyes. Location aspect: just out of reach for me for mille lacs(I'd personal like to be south of aitkin)...probably pushing 40-45 minutes to the lake pending. Sandy lake not too bad and leech is a drive too...BUT, all three are do-able and it's a good central location.

Can't go wrong with aitkin being a hub station for fishing OR hunting...

Has anyone had any luck up there this year? How was the crappie and walleye bite earlier this spring/summer?

My 1st time fishing Esquagamah was this past saturday afternoon into evening. The objective was to find the crappies then find a walleye or two.

We actually accomplished both.

We found the crappies in about 20 minutes. sat on a school and caught them at a rapid rate as they were hitting pretty good. Not the size I expected but a few 11 inchers and mostly 9 to 10. But fiesty zingers.

We bored with the crappies and went to the grass island more in the center of the lake. Just a hunch it might hold a eye. I trolled a green jig and gulp minnow. It took a few minutes to run into a northern. then another 30 minutes and thinking I had aother northern i had a 22 inch eye. It ran like an northern. It was out of 8 feet. Chunky strong eye.

trolling around we'd run into crappies taking my larger jig, they also were the larger crappies. Eventually I got one more eye but it was 12 inches.

That completed the objective. it was getting late. a bunch of crappies and two eyes.

I don't know anything about the lake because it is my 1st experience going there. Id go back in the fall.

I see it has plenty of eyes but we didn't catch enough to say its a eyey ball lake. Just luck more than anything.

Inlaws hace a cabin on the lake. I actually love the lake. Most of the boating is pontoons. I think I have seen one jet ski in five years. You can always catch pannies. Some very decent. Better than average bass. Northerns are always available. Walleyes can be hard to come by but once you figure out how to catch them...

Not a great swimming lake. We take the boats out to swim. plus side...loons, otters, eagles, osprey. Friendly people, I like rednecks.

Round lake and wakenabo are a stones throw away and are good fishing too.

Several cabins forsale on the southwest side.

Prices seem reasonable for the area. 15 miles east or west, that is a different story. hope this helps
