I'll take 12,000 lakes over a superbowl trophy any day of the week and twice on sundays. MN has more shoreline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined. It's the little things in life....

what's your point? how exactly does a piece of hardware sitting in a trophy case make your life so much better besides fueling your ego?

apparently having a trophy collecting dust in a trophy case somewhere makes your state much better to live in....

hey LMIT, just curious, what state do you live in?

Some day I will learn?

Listen up kid, that is the reason I'm against this...because some people need a wake-up call that there are more important things happening right now than figuring out how to throw more money at a billionaire's feet.

Listen up guy, Apparently somewhere along the line you got the assumption I am for this whole stadium thing? Please tell me where I said I was for this whole thing. I could care less about the Vikings and Wolves leaving... As long as the Wild and Twins are in MN, I am happy.

I fail to see how having 8 home games/yr brings enough $$/tourism/jobs into the a city that justifys building a new stadium (especially in todays condition of our state). I'd love to see a NPV analysis of the Vikings leaving vs them staying and building the new shack. If it was up to me, they would continue playing in the Dome for another 20 years or else get on the bus and head to LA. Do I agree with how pro sport teams leverage their home state/city for money? Aboslutely not. But it is people who pride themselves on the number of trophies they have collecting dust on a shelf somewhere that are funneling money into the pockets of the billionaire owners.

And LMIT, what state do you live in? I'm not trying to be a smart but, I seriously don't know and I am just wondering...

Yes there will ne an initial cost to the state to build it. But in the long run it should also benefit the state. The stadium will employ a lot of folks, the local hotels, bars, resturants, shopping centers,.... will benefit. All these fine folks will be paying taxes on thier purchases. I think it is a good investment.

BINGO! And don't forget all the money that hostings events such as the Super Bowl will bring in.

Although, I'm pretty confident that this won't make it out of the legislature.

There are many books dealing with this subject....here are a couple you may want to read....

Field of Schemes: How the Great Stadium Swindle Turns Public Money into Private Profit, Revised and Expanded Edition (At Table S.) [Paperback]

Neil deMause

Sports, Jobs, and Taxes: The Economic Impact of Sports Teams and Stadiums [Paperback]

Roger G. Noll

I am sorry, but no way in this budget situation should we be financing a billionaire's enterprise. Ziggy wants the Arden Hills site so he can develop the real estate around it (that's what his business is). Tax money should not be going towards his development plans.

Some of the things that are going to be developed on the site that the tax payers of MN are helping to paying for:

-Hotel

-Restaurants

-Retail

-Residential

-Movie Theater

-Exclusive deal for Vikings to buy additional acreage on the site

What a sweetheart deal for someone that doesn't even live in the state.

I don't need to read any books to know that a new stadium is going to bring $$ in. How much money is the real question. Each individual team/city/stadium is going to be different, and I am sure none of those books were written specifically for MN in our current economic state and our budget deficit.

What it comes down to is the Vikings could have remained in the Dome for zero cost to the taxpayers, but they didn't want to. Ziggy and the franchise wanted to increase the bottom line..

Regardless of what field the team is playing on, you cannot tell me that they are going to win more games because of their new stadium. Regardless, there is still a salary cap and the franchise is going to spend the same amount of $ on players whether they are playing in the dome or a different stadium.

Sorry, that is correct. $240 million dollars - State estimate not mine, currently budgeted at only $100 mil in the plan. And yes, they are low-balling in order to make the deal look more palatable.

I thought that the Vikes were near the bottom in income and a new stadium would bring them closer to the top thus allowing them to spend more on free agennt and in keeping their stars etc.

Although you would think so, income and payroll don't have a direct corelation in the NFL. 2010 was an uncapped year because of the expired labor agreement, and the Vikings were #3 in the entire NFL in payroll last year @ $143M.... How did that work out for Ziggy and the Vikes? Spending like crazy doesn't always produce the end result you want to see. Sound investments are the key to good returns. Keep in mind we are still going to be paying Brett Favre's 2009 and 2010 salary come the next couple years as a good chunk of it was deferred

The NFL salary cap was introduced in 94 and I'm sure will continue to be in place after there is a new labor agreement. The whole idea of the Salary cap in the NFL is to keep it from turning into the MLB w/ teams like the Yankees spending more than the bottom 4 teams in payroll combined. The whole idea is to keep somewhat of a "level playing field"

One thing will be certain, if the Vikes move forward and get a new stadium, Ziggy will be making a lot more money.

If it as you say and the new stadium will not help the product on the field, why do some fans want a new stadium, much less help pay for it?

Why do the Vikes want a new stadium that they will only partially pay for?

I realize that the dome is no more and something needs to be done but this discussion has been going on for yrs.

Somewhere on another site there is discussion about a vikings stadium where everyone on there is totally against building a stadium. On that site lmit is saying "what's wrong with you vikings fans, don't you have any loyalty. All these other cities have put stadiums up with 75% coming from public funding. Why can't you people get that done". But that's lmit for you. Ahhhh.... the transparency........

I guess one way I did not initially think of for benefiting the team on the field is the attractiveness to potential free agents. Some free agents might be detered from joining the Vikings in the past b/c of the unattractiveness of the dome, whereas a new stadium is more attractive to potential free agents.... However, I don't think a new stadium is going to be a magnet to free agents as there are a whole bunch of teams with new stadiums out there. Additionaly, you still have to free up the cap space to get the money to spend on them in the first place

1. because the vikings blackmail the fans and say, 'if we don't get a stadium, we're leaving'

2. because they make more money.

Of course you don't lmit. You will argue the other side of the coin of any argument a Viking fan brings up. Happens on any topic brought up......your gig is transparent.

Maybe it just happens that the Viking fan is wrong most of the time, with most of the time being the last 50 years. grin

I honestly didn't say anything to the contrary on a different website, so either someone is using a name similar to mine or you're just grasping a little too much.

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣

Wow, 600 bucks for a battery powered lawn mower?  Guess I didn't realize they costed that much.   I assume most people now are using battery augers in the winter.  I remember when they first came out everyone thought they were a joke.  Things sure have changed on that front.  I hardly see anyone using a gas auger anymore.   The selling point, at least for me, would be to avoid having to do any engine maintenance.  Small 2 stroke motors are a pain in the rear to maintain, and unreliable at best.
