Croxton Pond Ice Bag

Grabs

Question

Just recieved my bag today for Christmas,..gosh she is good to me! Anyhow I really like it but I am having some troubles getting my rods all inside nicely. Does anyone have some helpful hints on how to get them in there. I think my biggest problem is all of my rods (4) are so different from each other in reel style and rod length, that there may not be a great way of getting them all in there. So anyone out there that has been using this bag, how do you do it?

P.S. Rick I know this topic is in the Ice Gear forum, but I wasn't allowed to post there. Why do we need permission to post there?

Croxton Pond makes several models of totes. If you have the ice tote with the 3 side compartments on it you should have plenty of room for 4-6 average sized rods in the center.

Collapsing the reel handles will help as does staggering the reels from one end to the other. I can manage up to 6 rod and reels by doing this and 4 should be no problem at all.

Give that a try, hope this helps.

Howdy All...

Just thought I'd bring this one back up to tell you this is a great product. Ordered it on 1/10, received it on 1/12. How's that for service!! So far it's contents are as follows... (4) rods, including a 33"er, 2 tip-ups, (2) small lure/gear boxes, 3 cell flashlight, head lamp, small tool pouch, a tin of Kodiak, and half a bag of chips. AND it's not even close to being full!!! I think I'll have to test it's limits as far as rod holding capability. And maybe another small box of misc. baits/lures. No such thing as having too many ya know.

This product comes HIGHLY recommended!!!!

Grabs,

I have the three compartment Croxton Pond. At first, I tried velcro-ing alll of my rods everytime I transported them, but just said the heck with it. I had 6 rods in there(like Backwater said)and collapsed the handles. If your going for a longer journey etc., I would take the time to velcro them all in. Otherwise, I just velcro my favorite more expensive rods in and throw the others in, zip it up and boom, I'M GONE!!!

Pwaldow, Hmmmmmm I was on Winnie with a Croxton Pond bag?? Oh that's right, you were just driving around harrassing people!LOL!

They had such rave reviews here on the Forum that I e-mailed my wife the page containing the info on the ice-bag: lo and behold, I got one for Christmas!
So far the only downfall: One of my fishin buddies gave me a hard time about carrying a "purse" with me fishing. He's just jealous. I'm sure he'll have one by the end of the season!

<;))))><

Jim,

I actually saw Rick's on Saturday morning and spent the rest of the day scheming how to talk him out of it grin.gif Thought it would be easy to talk him out of it towards the end of the day when he came walking back from visiting Toad and Gullguide about 100 miles out on the ice, but he looked so pathetic all frozen solid with no gloves or jacket, just didn't have the heart. Finally broke down and decided I would have to pay for it frown.gif

I've had mine for a month and wouldn't be without it !!!!
Mine holds 5 rods, two tackle boxes, a skimmer, and there's still room for a bag of jerky.
It lets you use your bucket for hauling fish and beverages instead of gear......

The gear bags keep all your rods, tackle and other frequently used items handy, organized and protected.
I definitely would not be without mine!!
I'm sure you who have one would not want to go back to the bucket brigade again.
It's THAT valuable.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
