Bait cast reels

I'm a long time spin cast user, and was thinking of buying a bait cast, I was wondering if there are any real advantages to using a bait cast. Also I crank with my left hand and have not seen a bait cast that is cranked left-handed, can you find them or are they just not available.

Most manufactures do make left handed bait casters. If you have never used one you may find the right hand to work better. I would say it depends on the type of fishing you do most. Trolling, casting, etc. I have always been a fan of the shimano calcutta series. I use them for casting and trolling crank baits for walleyes. The most i like about the baitcaster is almost no line twist. They are fun to use but to take time to learn them. If your in the market for one, dont go cheap. Spend the extra money for a good brake,drag,bearing and spool control system. Good Luck D-man

I was the same way, but I wanted a setup that I could troll cranks and bottom bouncers and the like so I bought my first baitcaster a Diawa ps25b and a st.croix rod 6yrs ago and haven't looked back. just get a good one and with a flippin switch, heck I hardly cast the thing ever, I even use it on an Ice rig,w/spyder wire , you can watch the spool spin till your jig hits the bottom, I like mine, I'd go for it. there are some out there with the crank on either side,

ITS HARD TO BEAT A GOOD BAITCASTING SETUP! A GOOD REEL ON A MED HEAVY ROD AND YOUR READY FOR THEM! IT TAKES PRACTICE TO THROW BUT WELL WORTH IT.
TRY TO GO WITH THE RIGHT HAND RETRIEVE FOR MORE SELECTION OF REELS BUT EITHER WAY YOULL BE GLAD YOU DID. MY FAVORITE IS MY ABU GARCIA AMBASSADEUR 3600C. I GAVE $120 FOR IT BUT ITS CHOICE. I CAN THROW A 2" SHAD RAP RIGHT OVER THE PLATE.
BY THE WAY, HOWS THAT OTTER TAIL BEEN FOR YA? I'D LOVE TO GET UP THERE THIS FALL YET!

I haven't been to the ottertail in about a month now, last time I was there was pretty good. This year's class was starting to bite, however so I spent a lot of time taking little tiny suckers off, they were hardly as big as the crank. Did catch a couple 2# +.
Do you fish it differently in the fall, once the water gets colder, I was thinking about heading down there this next week.
