Im not saying the dnr should/would ever change shelter laws. I personally don't own a perm any longer and enjoy being by my self when at all possible. I do not enjoy being 10 feet or even 50 feet from the next wheel house. for that matter but its public water. is it right to lock up the end of a point or corner of a sunken island by leaving house on it for weeks? it is not the house owners fishing location.

why should he/she be allowed to leave perm house there un-attended over night. you have your opinion on the matter as do I.

that being said I may feel differantly if I owned a perm.

When they realize what happened they will burn your shack to the ground.

I agree with all the posts on this topic I have a very nice perm luckily never been broke into but that is probobly becouse I am always away from the big groups, and i never leave anything of value in it. I havnt even taken it out this year I have been having alot more fun and catching alot more fish in the portable.

Lets just use this as our annual reminder. If you keep your perm on a lake, take your valuables with you, or use your best judgment.

Remember ladies and gentlemen, this happens every year.

Thanks.

Matt

DON'T SAY THAT. My house got burnt to the ground 2 years ago. You can't believe how bad that is.

I am surprized it took this long or late the season.

An old buddy of mine lived in Burnsville. He works at Honda. This was some years ago but one night he left his car there for some work to be done the following morning. The next day he discovered his car stolen. We haul our boat twice a year to Tetonka during the summers. Weeks after the incident. Coincidence but we saw a teenage kid driving around in Faribault with a same exact model honda with yellow bumpers and side skirts. Exactly what was missing from the car when the police discovered it. We notified authorities but has been quiet ever since. Another summer while walking to the parking ramp to get the truck and trailer to dock the boat in Sakatah Park. I saw some teenage kids hanging in the parking lot. It was suspicious they didn't have a trailer on their blazer but parked next to all the trucks and trailers. As I walked towards my truck, one of them went back into the car. Without making it obvious while the other one enjoyed his cigarette, I inspected my truck and trailer but nothing seemed to be missing or broken and off I went. After loading the boat and driving back towards the parking on the way out, the teenagers were gone. All i remember is they drove a red early 2000 model Chevy blazer with Falcon Faribault H.S. sticker on their rear windshield. I'm not saying they were up to no good but they seemed very suspicious!

Just finished reading some of your comments regarding the insurance & "suprises". I own an insurance agency and can tell you that you can insure your permanent fish house either under your auto policy (if on wheels) or under your homeowners policy if on skids. This is the way the companies I represent insure them. As far as suprises go, I went out and bought two motion alarms for $22 bucks each and have them at seperate ends of my permanent. If someone breaks into my house, the alarms will sound after around 30 seconds, & they are very loud. They just give me a little extra comfort knowing that if someone does break into my fish house, they will probably end up crapping their pants when those go off.

How are they powered or are they hard wired into the house????

A loud alarm might do no good if noones around

Yeah I had mentioned the insurance thing earlier. I asked my insurance guy and also my uncle who owns an insurance company here in Mankato and they both told me I was right... who would thunk it haha

I like the alarm idea or even a motion light on the ouside of the house. I loud screaming alarm would most certainly make someone start running. A motion light may also work if wired into the house. Once that light turns on they may think someone is still inside...

You'd think so, but I've had my little fm radio left in my house since January 4th and have yet to change the batteries, it takes 3 AA.

I just went on line and found RV motion lights. They could replace my RV outside lights that I have now and they would go on at 10' to 25' away. That might be enought to scare some people away. Now to find an alarm system that would work before they break down the door.

while i live in a place that never freezes and if it does we are all not going to worry about much afterward, i have read this similar thread for the past couple years. the one thing that comes to mind is no different than leaving your keys in your truck in the drive, the house unlocked, or a computer sitting on the front seat of you car, someone is going to try and take it. the thought that because there is someone who owns a perm shack on the ice is any less susceptible is just nuts. i think that if you put something out whether a fishing house or a deer stand someone is going to mess with it. i have insurance on my tools that are locked in my garage, dont use them much anymore but they are insured cause i just know that either i will leave the door open or my son will and someone will want them. just does not make much sense not to have insurance.

I stumbled upon a house with an open door today on Duck. It looked like the lock had been torn off the door and the door was wide open. I wrote down the DNR # off the side of the house and called dipatch. hopefully they can look up the numbers and contact the owner.
