A little information.... is it worth it????

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, heading up for the yearly trip on the american side in the end of feb. We've always done well for eyes and saugers but have never really taken the time to target northerns. Anyone think it would be worth the time to head in shallow and try them or just put down a couple flags deeper out a ways from the walleye lines. We head out of Springsteel so over on the southwest side. Any info or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Sorry I don't spend all my time on the computer eh!!

If you wanna catch Pike it'd be worth it I spose! Pike show up on the Walleye lines quite regular on Muskeg thru the winter. I'd probably lean towards deeper than shallow mid winter, not saying you would'nt maybe get some shallow.

Thanks fisky, usually i spend a week in mid march on the canadian side, but new baby ='s only one trip this year, so I'll have to make the necc. adjustments. Time is short and really want to be as productive as possible given the time frame.

Thats good to hear, we have always been able to find fish up there so no worries. I usually take a trip in March to the canadian side for pike and new baby equals pick your poison, but would still like to set the hook into that 15 to 20lb hog if possible, more for my old man than anything, would like to see him battle a monster like that.

When you get to the bait store find the biggest sucker you can get....kill it and hook it on a tip up about 5 feet under the ice...big pigs are caught this way up there all the time....my theory...lots of fish die after being caught...float up to the bottom of the ice...big northern cruise by and grab one...good luck, its a blast!!

Yeah, we typically stagger them, some on the bottom, some under the ice, we've had days on the other side of the point with 60 fish a day, just never tried them where we're heading.
