Twins resigned Pavano

according to Ken Davidoff, Pavano officially resigned with the Twins today. I'm very interested to see what the numbers are (years and $$). This is absolutely great news for the Twins. If there was one thing we needed to add from last year, it's quality SP, and we would have been in a world of hurt if Pavano walked away.

Quote:
Twins signed RHP Carl Pavano to a two-year, $16.5 million contract.

The basic parameters of the deal were agreed to last week, but it took several more days to work out all of the financial terms. Pavano, 35, posted a strong 17-11 record last year with a 3.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 32 starts. If he can come close to those numbers in 2011 and again in 2012, it should turn out to be a fine deal. Pitching in Target Field should help that goal.

Well I made a promise to my son a few weeks ago. A 2-step process, really. Something I said I would do if the Twins re-signed Pavano.

Step #1 was to buy a Pavano jersey which I did online just now

Step #2 any guesses? Hint---It has to do with something my wife is not going to be very attracted to I think.

probably something involving facial hair......under the nose maybe? Good luck with that....I tried it once, for a couple weeks, but it drove me crazy.

About time... I was starting to get nervous because we would have had a big hole in the 1/2 spot. Payroll aside, I am kind of surprised we didnt pick up a #3 starter this off season. What decent free agent pitchers are left on the market?

I think Baker ought to fill that role easily enough, followed by Duensing and/or Blackburn. Good signing, Carl will be a nice steadying influence. Again, as always, our bullpen is going to be the big question mark (refer to threads last spring).

well, they overpaid for capps, but got pavano at a bit of a discount. i'll call it a wash smile

none of it will matter if the bg bats don't stay healthy and productive all year for once!

pavano was the only good free agent pitcher this year, and we got him. our rotation looks great. we have 6 solid starters. I would take slowey over blackburn. but its great to have 6 incase of injury.

Pretty sure cliff lee is a bigger free agent then pavano this year. If we would have gotten lee then we could be very happy and be sitting pretty. Now we still have to wonder what we can do in a playoff series.

I stand corrected, lee was a better free agent. I should have stated that pavano was the best of what was remaining. smile

Id rather have a solid rotation and ok bullpen than the other way around.

I don't know. 10-20 years ago, yes. These starting pitchers are getting pulled alot earlier nowadays. Alot of games you are looking at getting 4 innings, occasionally more out the pen.
