I didn't know anybody still went down there. I tried canoeing out there a couple summers ago. That backwater filled in so much with sediment and thick weeds, I didn't get too far.

I remember Pritchard's back in the good old days throughout the 1980's and into the very early 1990's. My dad and grandpa told me stories of the great fishing they had down there since at least back in the 1950's. It used to hold big northern pike, along with slab crappies and bluegills for a number of years and I spent a lot of weekends down there. No need to go anywhere else. If I had to make a list, it is probably one of my favorite fishing spots of all time. Just amazing. Many happy memories.

However, as with the rest of the river/backwaters it's always evolving. I think the main culprit was the large amount of silt/sand/sediment being pumped into the Weaver Bottoms/Pritchard's area by the Whitewater River. These backwaters kept getting shallower until they became just one big mud hole. It's kind of sad.

I think it's been almost 20 years since the fishing declined so much that I quit fishing there. Maybe I will go back out there just for the heck of it this weekend.

Thanks for posting this thread.

I grew up there. My front yard. grin I watched it evolve as you say. I used to sell hotdogs on the ice to all of the hungry fishermen. After I caught a meal of gill and crappie of course. Man I miss that. I just posted this tread to see if anyone else (HSOers)was on the ice the same time as I. Never hurts to pound a few holes out there. Sometimes you'll be surpised. (hint) Anyone else want to relive Pritchards??

I was out there yesterday morning and refused to set up within whispering distance of the crowd. I hopped all over the place with only a handful of dinks to show for it. Apparently the "crowd" was catchin' keepers but instead I went to bass camp and watched some slabs not biting my jigs all afternoon. Talked to your mom for a sec while digging myself out of a snow bank. Good luck with the new little one soon.
