Just curious as to the best way to set up a rattle wheel in a rented sleeper. We are heading to Arnesen's the end of January. I am sure they don't want anyone attaching there rattle wheels to the walls or ceiling with screws and etc. So looking at some of the ways anyone else has tried. Thanks

Maybe a silly answer but could a you get away with a tip up with a beeper alarm sensor on it?

Just sleep close to the tip up so when the flag goes up it slaps ya in the face! wink

I'll be in a sleeper on mille lacs and on leech in the next 4 days, i know the one on leech has rattle reels in it, pretty sure the one on the big pond does too.

We used a hose clamp to secure the rattle wheel to a C clamp then C clamped the rattle wheel to a chair in the evening, placed the chair over the hole and it worked just fine.

We had some of the old style jig sticks with rattle reels mounted on them. (the ones that have the point on them to stick into the ice)

Give the resort that you are renting from a call....more then likely they will have rattle reels set up in there, and if not they will advise you.

We just got back from arnesens and did both. I took a piece of 1x2" scrap wood about 20" long and screwed a cheap rattle reel to the middle of one side. Then you just span the hole in the floor of the shack with the rattle reel hanging over the hole. Worked slick and takes up no room to pack them. We also had two tip ups down with alarms on them. Out of all four setups down three night we caught a total of 2 eelpout. But it's always fun having them down just in case the big daddy walleye is hungry at midnight and happens to have your minnow hit him in the face!

I just bought one that clips to the side of a bucket.

You can buy rattle reels that have spring clips, similar to alligator clips, attached to the end of them. This is what I use in my perm, as I only put them out when I plan to use them.

Ya attach them to the side of a bucket. Works great outside too....

Looks like a shallow lake with some potential.  Keepable crappies, decent bluegills and some nice perch according to the last survey (2015). Susan Lake   With a max depth of 10 feet, I’d want to know a little more about it before I’d start drilling holes.  Could be a nice little adventure though.

Jeff and I fished Saturday and half day Sunday, targeting whitefish, ciscos, crappies, and perch.  The bite was tough for us.  We ecked out a few, but nothing special.  Highlight of the weekend was the sled ride into Wolf Lake and having an eagle swoop in and eat a rock bass we had on the ice.  All in all, not a bad way to waste time.

Took another trip into the BWCAW last Friday to fish for lakers.  I waited until daylight to drive the snowmobile to the portage so I could safely cross the large pressure ridge in the middle of the lake.  There were 4 other parties already parked at the portage when I got there, plus 2 other parties came later in the day (one even after sunset).  Walking/towing on the lake was quite easy and I found a spot to fish with nobody close by.  Fished for over 10 hours until sunset and didn't catch a fish.  I did have 4 hits on jigs, including one I got up to the bottom of the hole before the snap swivel caught on the bottom of the hole and the fish shook off.  Enjoyed the sunset in the BWCAW before starting the trek out in dusk.  While leaving I saw 3 other people towing sleds just coming onto the lake, I assume to spend the night.  While snowmobiling in the dark back to the landing I got slightly lost but was able to correct my rout and make it out before running out of gas (was on empty).  Was very nice day in the BWCAW, but it is a tough trip when you don't even catch a fish.  May go back to Burntside this week for a much easier trip.

Anyone have any info on Susan Lake just north of Black Bay on Vermilion?  I'm curious if it's a panfish possibility while we wait for the opener.

Had a fish fry for my wife and the neighbor lady, so it’s time to get some more fish.

Hot out today to enjoy the weather and fish. The bite was crazy good. I kept 10 crappies and 8 gills. Gills were 7 3/16 to 8 1/8 inches crappies were from 9.5. 10.5 inches. Shallow water just below the ice. 3 mm pink and white with a white spug.
