Something new for Eating on the ICE

Recommended Posts

For me and ALOT of others, this is usually pretty low on the priority list - But - If there was some type of mobile kitchen with hot food (the icecream truck for MEN!) that would make the weekend that much better...like a mobile soup & bread kitchen.

any ideas for something differeny - & dont say sandwich smile

I like to stick with tube meat of some sort. I usually bring hot dogs - chili, cheese, cut onions, mustard & buns. It packs easy, can be cooked in beer or lake water. You can get by with one pan and a fork for a mess of guys. I've cooked/heated them on the top of a buddy heater when in a pinch.

Lasanga - just put ours together for this coming weekend the other day and put it in the freezer. Will cook it once it thaws out while fishing.

Frozen Pizza's - easy and quick - don't mess with fishing time.

Why of course fish! smile Bring the turkey fryer and fry fish instead of turkey.

Hell you could do a turkey in a deep fryer.

Seasoning not to forget: salt, pepper, chilli pepper shaker for pizza, cajun cowboy

Try wide mouth vacuum bottles. You can bring your own chili, soup or whatever you like. I also have a single burner butane stove for cooking on the ice. It is no bigger than a metro phone book and works like a dream. About $25 from Marine General. You can cook tube meat (in sauerkraut), Mac & cheese, breakfast in a baggie or anything else you would prepare on a stove top.

We heat Polish or Brats and put them in a wide mouth and just pack a baggie with buns and condiments already on them, works great, beats a cold sandwich. smile

I made a hot ham and cheese sandwich on my heater/cooker this weekend. make up the sandwich, butter the outside of the bread, and wrap in tinfoil. toss on the burner for a couple minutes per side and its amazing!!!

How about omlets! I like to whip eggs and all the fixings (green peppers onions etc.) and put them in a baggie and boil the baggie. It takes about 5 minutes and you have a good breakfast and no plates needed.

I also make pizza sandwiches simalar to a grilled cheese but with the pizza fixings. Sqeezable pizza sauce is the key to not making a mess.

People razz me that we eat better on fishing trips.

Leaving for LOW on Thurs morning.

The menu includes:

Steaks,

smoked pulled pork,

sloppy joes,

eegs and sausage,

chili,

and hopefully our fill of fresh fish.

For the eel pouts, I found a new seafood sauce using coconut milk and red curry. Can't wait to try it.

Beer will be fresh growlers from Flat Earth brewery in St. Paul.

Easiest meal on the ice for me was when in college. Had a buddy that worked at a pizza place, he delivered right to the door of the fish house.
