March 14th & 15th report...Fishing was Pretty good! Monday our crew of 4 woman and 2 guys had our limit. 19 walleye (14 - 19 1/4"), 29 sauger up to 15", 1 jumbo & 2 tullies. Ate 20 fish that night, so we could fish again the next day. Tuesday started out fast and furious. Sauger were biting good, but we were very selective. Released a 25" and we were hooked up 2 more times on bigger fish that were lost. Ended the day early (about 2pm) with our 20 fish. Brought home 24 eyes, 24 sauger, 1 jumbo & 2 tullies. Lures of choice were the macho minnow, plain red hook, plain pink hook, pink doodle bug, pink charmer & lead head jig painted red & white. We were in 28' of water.

Thanks, that was a great report! I was just wondering if you were fishing the reefs or the mud? how far out? Thanks for your report!

We were out by Twin Islands in about 28' (I think). The walleyes were all males except 2 that we kept. The saugers on the other hand were 75% females. I think they are on the move to some shallower water.

Were you in one of their cabins and using a day house? My sons and I were up 14th thru today stayed in a sleeper house. We caught some fish but not action like that. The sleepers were all located relatively close to the resort (I thought as you could see the resort from the house). Would have been nice to get into a little action like that.

Yes, we were in one of the cabins and using the day houses. We have done this 3 years now @ Arensens and love it.

Just got back last night fished the 18th and 19th with my wife. We fished 12 mile returned with a limit of fish. The 19th was a consistent bite all day with one bonus slot fish and a sumo perch. We limited out with 15 to 17 inch walleye and 14 inch saugers on the 19th. When we went in pretty much every one on the ride had there fill of fish. Great service by Arnesens, this was our first trip to LOW and we will be back!

We were out on the 22nd 23rd and 24th in day houses. Day one was mild weather mid to upper 20's. Started strong with gold jigs about 2 to 3 ft off the bottom. Later in the afternoon gold died off and pink/blue was the key. We bagged 9 fish mix bag of walleye saugers between 15 and 18" with 1 19". We reteurned one at 23" and 30 or so under 15". Great day close to 40 for my son and I. Day two wind really started howling. temps dropped just a bit. Gold didn't do anything for us. Went back to pink/blue. Morning was slow. It picked up in the afternoon and we finished out our limit leaving one walleye for each of us on the last day. We released one at 22" many under 15" and kept another fat 19". Day three the wind died down a bit but the temp dropped. All fish were caught at or near the bottom. I don't think we got anything to hit higher than 6" up. Much tougher day. Cold front. But we did do about a dozen released they ran smaller except for a 24". My son stayed with blue and pink I went to a white glow.

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!

I agree on the choices.   I didn't mean to say that a battery auger was better or greener or whatever.  I could care less about that.   It just seems that "most" ice anglers have made a switch to a battery auger in recent years.  That's all I was saying.  I know about a dozen people who regularly ice fish and they all have battery augers now.  I bet if you conducted a survey of all ice anglers, the majority would answer that they use a battery powered auger.
