got back last night from a 3 day trip in there sleepers and once again had another succesful trip cool they have burnt out 12 mile cuz they cant get to archies due to 30 inch gap that closed up on the thursday and turned into a pretty good heave and they still cant get there bombers across. so they had us on some tight contour lines not to far off of shore. when we followed them out on the first morning with our sleds i was pretty sceptical of where our house was sitting but figured there guys know what their doing and kept my mouth shut and started fishing. turned out they no where to put there houses as usual. two of us fishing and we had just under fifty fish on wednesday, thursday was pretty slow with upper twenties for fish caught(but we did spend most of the afternoon drilling holes and trying catch fish in spots joe told us about, probably would of done better if we had fished the sleeper all day), friday we were just under fifty fish. we have had better numbers in the past but this pretty darn good for as unsure the guides were about the area they had put us in. bite was decent from 9 to 12 and then and at noon it was like somebody rang the dinner bell and the majority of our fish were caught from noon to 3:30. only marked a few suspended fish after 3:30 each day but couldn't get any of them to bite. great service, they have always had our houses over fish and checking in with us 3 times a day to make sure we don't need anything. lures that produced the fish were rattlin flyers (green glow, and the gold and red one) and frosted glow stop sign for jigging and caught a ton of saugers with red hook under the bobber. wish we could come up again but gotta save our second trip for the river run. thanks again guys and see ya next winter.

sleeping bag pillow, pot and a pan, radio or ipod(only two stations come in on the fm up there) ziplocks for rinsing fish, cooking utensils, and cooking supplies you use at home for whatever your cooking. shacks have a full cooking range and oven, bunks with matress's, bathroom with bucket seat and tp, folding table, measuring tape with slots marked out, folding chairs, five gallon water jug and bait. shacks are huge and in excellent condition.

rattlin flyer i think just comes in the one size(they have them in the lodge) and i was using the biggest stop sign they make cant remember the size number. number 8 red hook with sinker eight inches above it on flourocarbon is what i always on the dead stick. goodluck, wish i could head back up.

Stayed in Arnesen's sleeper Jan 27-30. Had similar reports as minimite. Most of the fish were reallly agressive. Had to really work to get a few to bite. They would follow the bait up several times, but wouldn't bite until you raised up fairly fast. The best action was on a Red Lindy Flyer with a shiner head. And if you had a looker that wouldn't bite we would switch to a fathead(head)and they would bite on that. Sunday the fishing was tougher, but we managed 10 keepers in the morning while packing for the trip home. Hats off to the Arnesens group they run a excellent resort.

We're heading up to LOTW on the 4th.. Is Bablers road open to 16 mile yet? We've got a permy out there that needs to be tended to when we get up there.

Four of us set up in 30' along the north side of Arneson's reef. Well I think it was arnesons reef. We were quite a ways past Gull Rock. We caught 24 on Sat. from 11:30 until 5:00 and 26 on Sunday fishing from 10:30 until 2:30. All nice good eaters 14-16" eyes and saugers. one slot (21"). Bright green buckshots with the whole minnow worked well. They would not hit just a minnow head. Also caught a few on orange glow jigs under bobbers.

Fished in Arnesens sleeper houses Friday and Saturday. We were 1.1 miles from the resort. Caught 55 fish between the three of us. 4 slot fish and a lot of 15 -17" eyes. Saugers were small but we did keep four over 13". Dead stick did well with red hook on Friday. Saturday blue Slender spoons were the ticket for jigging. Fish seemed to get aggressive when ever the sun peaked out. Great time and great resort. Can't wait to get back up there.

Four of us fished out of Arnesen's 1/31 & 2/1 by Twin Islands in one of their houses (25 ft). Caught about 40 or so each day but probably missed 20 others each day. You had to tease them into doing something more than just mouth your minnow. We kept 16 the first day for a fish fry and 20 the second to take home. We were told 2 minnow heads work best but we had better luck with a whole live minnow. One line with gold and glow any color (pink, green, red...) and the other, a plain red hook. Most fish came on the plain red hook but it seemed like you need the glow lure to bring them in. No pike, perch, pout or over size limit walleyes.

We will be back next year at Arnesen's, very nice place.

SDS, Arnesons does not maintain a road but a half mile up the road before you get to Arnesons is Babblers road where you'd be good to go with your wheel house.

From what I remember from earlier posts it is just Richard Babbler His number is 218 442 6661.

You thinking of heading that way? Need to check there or Zipple. Wonder if there is a place to store houses up that way.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
