Leader question

Hello there, I'm new to fly fishing and have a question about leaders. My rod is a 5 weight and I'm just wondering what pound test leader I should use? I will mainly be fishing for panfish. Also what is a good length of leader? Thank you.

To have some fun chasing panfish buy a couple of 7.5' leaders of #x or 4X and you'll be good to go. No need for a longer leader and no need for a finer leader. Add a spool of 3 and 4X tippet and you'll fish a long time with the same leaders.

Fly fishing is nor nearly as complicated as some people would make it.

One piece of advice I've got for you starting out. Don't try to cast big flies right away. I tried this and get really frustrated when I first started out. Start with smaller stuff and your casting will be much easier. When you've got the hang of it, try moving onto the heavier flies like poppers and divers.
