ok, got it, we always fish that shoreline, theres a 25 foot or so hole there. right out in front of a blueish-green shed. so any new good news about lake conditions? ,may be coming up feb 12 weekend to clean out and fish but my buddy all of a sudden is kind of he-hawin around. may just have to snowmobile in.

I walked out Wed. afternoon on a lake I like to panfish. Luckily there was a snowmobile track going right out to my spot.

I started walking on the track and broke through, finding slush almost knee deep. Good thing I had my chest waders on. After that I put the snowshoes on and didn't have any trouble.

However, when I walked off the track, I sank down 6-8" in the powder snow.

It was a LONG walk to catch a bunch of so/so sized panfish.

With all this snow, I just have NO gumption to get out and ice fish.

I've been spending alot of time at the archery club shooting my bow.

Spent 3 hours digging out our truck this weekend on a "plowed" road. It was plowed a couple weeks ago. Apparently you guys got a little snow in the last few weeks! By the sounds of it every lake is just about unfishable due to snow/slush unless you have a sled or a jacked-up wheeler. Another buddy of mine got buried in his 2000 Tacoma with an 8" body lift and 38" mud tires. Not sure if he ever got out....

so what do you see thats different from the lakes that the slush is frozen hard and the "bad" lakes you've encountered?

Not sure what the difference is. It seems backwards, but the lakes that are large enough for good winds seem to have the most slush. Smaller lakes and wind sheltered bays where the slush was bad before now seem frozen quite nice. I would think that the windswept lakes would freeze better but it is just the opposite. Can't explain it.

Probably every lake is different. It may be that the sheltered lakes and bays with fluffy snow allow the cold to penetrate to the slush and freeze it better than a windy crusty windswept lake does. So don't take my word as gospel, check each situation out yourself.

Maybe the large lakes have an ice pack that moves up and down with the wind, causing the water below the ice to kind of suction up the cracks and spread out as slush. I don't know.

Still pretty much snowmobile only if you want to go off road.

Hopefully this warm spell will knock the snow down so ATV's will be back in the game.

My wife and I were out on Big Cutfoot yesterday afternoon. We pulled the Otter Lodge out behind my Polaris Sportsman 400 w/ no problems. Tire chains probably help traction wise, but none the less we got out there.

Granted the area had been beat down pretty good by trucks and snowmo's.

Oh, and true to form, she provided tomorrow nights meal of perch and crappies. All I could catch was the little ones. Typical! LOL
