Anybody have pics or videos of what the Zipple Bay Resort icehouses look like? Or any descriptions would help. I'm heading out there the end of the month for the first time.

We are headed up to Zippel Bay Resort tomorrow. I heard the fishing has been really slow there. Is that true? Sounds like the roads don't go out deep enough there. A few guys have told us to drive back towards Adrians and go out far enough so we are in 30+ feet? Any body have suggestions?

Doublewide, I've been hearing the same thing, you're just going to have to find em. I recommend trying Zippel first, if you don't have any luck you may have to move out deeper.

Yea MNhunter, thats my camper, heading up in an hour, dont have the greatist expectations with the fluctuation weather patterns this weekend but my nephew wants to go an he's pumped, so what the heck, just might hit it. ever wonder why that beige house always sits in 17 feet in the same spot yea after year, I've been getting to know him the past few years an he makes my sausage, I've seen his results on paper, an I trust his intel, so I'nm gonna give it shot there again last yea paid off, an should went there last weekend, but owell. I report sunday night. later boar

$5 per hole, per hour.free bait

Does anyone know if we want to stop by and have a cocktail at the igloo, do we have to pay a fee to get out there?

Set the house on bobber st in 22' this past weekend. Drilled holes just before midnight on Friday night, battery went dead at 12:30. Got generator going from 1:00-3:00am to charge battery then caught some shuteye from 3:30-7:00. My 3yr old daughter caught the first fish in the new ice house at 9:30am. Ended up catching 11 saugers, 1 walleye and a perch from 9:30-11:30am. Green/Gold deadsticking 18" off the bottom. Caught one sauger at 3:30pm and then a 17" walleye(male) at 9:35pm! Sunday bite started at 9:28am with another nice 18.5" male eye. Caught 6 fish from 9:30-10:00 and 14 more between 11:30 and 1:00pm. Kept a total of 27 for the weekend which was a lot more than I was expecting with the weather pattern we had. The white Ford plow truck was moving Zippel houses onto trophy for a better part of the day on Saturday from out deeper, but I went with my gut and moved my house out to 26' on the shore side of Sauger a few hundred yards west of main. My house is the 20' Black Ice Castle with the A/C unit on top. Be back up next weekend for another great weekend of fishing and gaining weight, my stomach hates me today.

Fished Zipple Bay 1/17 -1/18. Had deep/shallow shacks out of Zipple Bay Resort. Very slow for us. 1/17 we fished shallow in morning and zero fish. Went to deep shack (30 ft.) on Hot Spot Rd. Caught three nice Saugers, a bunch of tiny Saugers, and one Tullibee. Went back to shallow shack ( 17 ft) on Walleye Rd. Caught 3 Walleyes ( 14 - 18 inches) and 1 nice Sauger. . Total of 7 in the bucket for 2 guys in 10 hours. Yesterday we went to shallow shack. Caught 3 Walleyes early and decided to stay there all day. Ended up with 6 Walleyes and 4 nice Saugers. Total of 10 fish in 10 hours. Dead stick was far better than jigging. Tried Rattlin Flyers, Toms Tackle, Buck Shots , etc. in many colors. Nothing working. Caught all of the keepers with a minnow on a Glow Demon. Lonely in the cleaning shack, so it was not only us having slow fishing.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
