Should I go Thursday

Recommended Posts

Was going to head up Thursday from the Duluth area. I think I can beat most of the bad weather by leaving a bit earler. Would like to hear from some locals if you think we should be able to Fish on Friday and Sat.Its a long drive up to have to sit in the cabin and not be able to drive out because of to much snow and wind. Any new info would help!

I have a house up there and we have got stuck at the house waiting for a plow truck to bust open the road. Things can get nasty up there in a hurry with high winds and snow. Might be miserable fishing out of portables. Maybe see if you can find a rental for the day, I'm sure the resorts will get people out there if possible. Otherwise I would not get to far off the beaten path and I think you should be ok. I plan on heading up tomorrow am as well as long as we dont get the freezing rain tonight.

I was gonna head up friday, but instead going next weekend, reasons: 1 I'd prefer to be there now on the front of the front:2 friday this might be good but it's a gamble an things just get tougher in cold weather an wind an snow, equipement wise that is. 3 Saturday is gona be worse than friday for fishing as the system is moving out an it really starts to get cold. 4 Sunday is gona be dead. The system is out of the area an the pressure is not were it needs to be, fish are gonna hug the bottom an stay there, you'll get sniffers an maybe catch the 10" sauger. Plus the real cold is now here an that just makes it tough to do anything. I would wait till a more stable weather pattern. Just my two cents. Boar

I agree Woodman. I'm in Bemidji and was slick this morning. We are going to try to head up early tomorrow(fri) morning (have a cabin/fishhouse waiting for us at Wigwam way out there) and want to go. Was hoping between bemidji and baudette wouldnt be too bad. Anyone who's driven this in a storm can you tell me the bad spots? Maybe north of Waskish I'd guess where it opens up a bit?

I'll be leaving in 3 hours. If anyone has any road updates or want to compare fishing notes, send me a text or give a call. I think it will be an interesting drive. I'd be happy to update anyone else coming up later today. My number is 763-226-4526-Dan.

I will have my brother send the texts so there will not be any texting and driving. grin

This is Gary's wife, Dorothy, Called and got an update from Dan. Says they are at Northome and nothing is plowed. Road is like driving through a trail. Said it was not too icy. They have been traveling about 40mph. THANKS to Dan and his brother for the update! We may still head up tomorrow.
