Big Buddy maintenance/repair

SkunkedAgain

Question

Ran my big buddy last week. Everything worked well except when I turned it to the "high" position. I got a lopy flame over the right burner and it never went to the orange glow phase. Just kept a flame going. Here is what the Big Buddy website says to do:

Quote:
Burner does not light after pilot is lit.

Main burner orifice is blocked/clogged.

Remove back cover & lower baffle to expose burner assembly. Clean main burner orifice with clean cloth or q-tip with alcohol.

Venturi tube is blocked.

Remove back cover & lower baffle to expose burner assembly. Blow out tube or use a pipe cleaner running up back of burners.

I opened up the back case, took off the metal baffle, but couldn't figure out how to access the main burner. Anyone done this before?

our hunting group has a couple that started to act up this year in deer stands, i read through the trouble shooting and it says to clean them, but haven't taken it apart yet. but will soon, and now we have picked up some filters to put on them as these units run off twenty pounders, and the company says if using bulk tanks to run filters. i think they are just passing the buck here to explain our troubles.

Just 1 more reason I dont run Buddy heaters anymore. Funny name for them isnt it? "Buddy". They were far from a true buddy to me. They were never dependable wich is a thing I look for in a buddy.

Between three good friends my brother and my self we have'nt had any problems yet grin. I have had mine for three years and ice fish 80+ days each year and it takes a beating riding all over heck in my otter all winter.
