Some must still be on the deer. Had one in the back yard yesterday here in rochester. Still had both antlers. Nothing to get excited over, only a fork horn.

RincRat,

I would agree that is not the same deer keep looking. You got a good chance at two matched sets!!

Posted

The one on the top photo left side and the next photo could be a match the one on the right top is not the same deer for sure

There are more bucks out there than most people realize good luck

Dropping just about done in my area, found a bloody 1 sunday, now soon to be buried again.

My bad rincrat... I thought you meant the 1st pic was a match. Like swamp said, they look like a match to me.

Went down to our property on Sunday. Didn't find any, but the neighbor found a bunch on his property to the bucks we know about. Still alot of snow in one of our good areas. But maybe it was also because we saw people's footprints...

Neighbor has cameras up year round and said 2 of the biggest bucks dropped in December. He also got a trespasser on camera. This guy put his hood up when he saw the first camera, but didn't see the second one so got him on camera, showed his picture around town and found out who was. Went and got all the sheds back from him. The guy even picked up the ones the neighbor had put out for his kids to find. Pathetic.

Had another guy parked on the access road to the field with all his gear on. No reason for anyone to stop there. When he asked him what he was doing, he said smoking a cigarette. Pathetic again.

Luckily he drives by our and his property twice a day.

i was talking about the first picture haha i thought those were the match. the second picture/shed is way smaller so i dont think its a match

Rincrat, in that case keep looking! Lol

there are plenty of big deer roaming the cities and the burbs that live long and grow big.....I would bet there are more than the 2 8 pointers in your buddies area in bloomington

Posted

ill be back out then! this fricken snow needs to melt

Posted

Ya this snow is getting pretty old. I put on 11 miles yesterday and only found one little 3 pt side. Theres still over a foot in most areas around here so unless they have 14" tines and are laying tines up they cant be seen

Posted

i found another good one yesterday. i was walking and kicked up two does and walked up to where they were and found the shed. Its a side to a nice tall 8. I tried putting the pics up yesterday and it wouldnt work so ill try when i get home from school.

I hadn't been out for awhile, but decided to check a local city park Friday afternoon. The DNR had been in burning off cedar trees on the hillside. I ended up finding two small ones that sat out a year. Nothing fresh.

Just looked over all my sheds I have at home this weekend. All but one are right sides. I have two match sets. I have looked before for shed but only the last couple years have I really made some better attempts to get out and look.

Even the big antler I found this winter is a right. I"m still looking for the other side of that. Seen one deer this weekend and still had both antlers.

I think I have a just around 20 sheds that do not match. 19 rights and 1 left. Hoping to find more in NE and SD turkey hunting.

ok so i have a question, i have tis prime spot where the deer walk at the bottom of this hill on a beaten path (by the deer) along a river, and now its flooding, when the river goes down do you think any sheds will be washed under or mean covered by leave and clutter after the river goes down?

Posted

They will probably be pretty tough to spot

Posted

Vexilarman--- We had that same issue in ND last year. Some spots were completely under water and logs and sticks and junk got moved around and piled up. We never found sheds in those areas. Other areas had mild flooding and we found sheds there. They will more than likely be covered in a fine silt but that washes off. If the water doesnt move to quick through that area you should be ok.

I decided to hit a spot yesterday afternoon and found 4 sheds in 2 hours walking. They sure stand out now with the snow mostly off!

I had another awesome day of shed hunting today! Ended up with 5 antlers between 3:30 and 6pm tonight. All single sides. Two real nice ones. One was sitting in a deer bed on a main trail in a small city park that usually is walked heavily every spring. I could see it from 50 yards away while walking out the top of the hill so don't know how it was missed. Missed getting a photo of one of them. Makes 21 for the season so far.

I found my biggest shed buck skull yet on Monday, and took it over to show a friend. He in turn comes out with this huge skull that drawfs the one I found by quite a bit. I took a couple of photos so you could see just how big this thing was.

Salamanders are the bomb smile I used to find them in my basement all the time, but not the last couple of years. I still find them occasionally outside around the place.

Spent a couple hours looking and this is what I came up with.

Lot's of good looking sheds being found.

I made it out yesterday for a short hike and found 2. My camera was on the fritz, so some pics did not turn out. I was very proud of my dog because she found her first shed. Most of the sheds I see first, but this was really her first solo shed find. I was standing there talking to my wife on the phone, and I saw her rooting around about 30 yards away; all of sudden she comes up with a nice little yearling 4pt. She got about 3 dog treat after that one!

Monday was my worst day of winter fishing on Vermilion in the last 4 years.  Caught only one 14" walleye in nearly 8 hours of fishing.  Missed two other bites and was marking very few fish.  Maybe the fish were taking Monday off after a big weekend.   No more water came up on the ice under my house.  Think it was because I haven't banked snow around it for a couple of weeks so the bare ice around the house is getting very thick.  I measured 38" of ice under my house and the Ion barely made it through even with the extension installed.  Needless to say I banked around the house this time.  Another lesson I learned today is don't drill holes if ice is frozen on your blades.  I did that on one hole and it didn't center properly and drilled at an angle on the edge of the opening.  Hope I can correct the location and angle on my next trip up.   Not much change in the surface lake surface conditions.  The drifts may be a little higher and are definitely harder.  There are still a few bare ice spots on the lake.  Very little activity on the lake today.  There are about 3 dozen houses from McKinley Park out to Birch Island.  Another person pulled there house off today, and I am sure many more will pull theirs off this coming weekend.  Only 13 days left of walleye season.

Great looking food. So far not much of a game and I thought the halftime show was worse I've seen.
