I saw 2 140 class holding both side in the metro last Saturday. They were with a shed buck. This snow is burying everything right now though. If anyone finds one, post a pic. My guess is it will be one tine sticking up an inch.

Thanks to everyone for showing and telling. Sure am getting pumped to get out more...if only the dang snow would quit! Only thing I find good about the snow is that it makes some of my lazy competition quit early or slows them down!!

love the pics too!

I was hitting a spot today and came up with one nice 4 point side. smile I have been pretty lazy on getting out lately... This was my 1st walk since I found the nice one on the 3rd, but #7 is now in the bag so hopefully I will get back on track now! 6 left sides and only one right, so I know some areas that should have a half dozen antlers at least on the ground!

He found #6 today as we were leaving our shed hunting spot he saw it laying along the road in plain sight in a field road opening. Amazing nobody picked it up as it had to have been there all day I would think as it was getting dark when we left.

Finally got another chance to get out and look for more antlers this past friday and also today. Last friday walked some standing corn and found a 5pt side buried deep in the snow. Today i walked three different places must have put on 3 miles or more. Finally on the last spot I spotted a deer leg sticking out of the snow went over to investigate and after about 10-15 minutes of diggin in the snow I spotted a nose and took a step back and I stepped right on its antler. It was a basket 8pt. Having best year to date even with the snow being knee to thigh high in most spots.

I was watching a deer hunting show, the guy had shot a really nice buck. While he was showing off the rack from different angles, both of the antlers came off at the same time. It would been a 160-170 class buck, how its just sheds. cry

went for a 4 mile walk in the snowshoes yesterday...no antlers but I sure slept good!

Walked for 2 miles yesterday on some public in Iowa. Snow was shin to knee deep. Only found a dead doe and dead button buck..... Oh ya and a live possum in a corn field. We are suppose to get another 4-7 inches of snow not good for looking for antlers.

My son and I walked for about 2 hours in the metro on Saturday, no luck. I know a big set is going to be out there some where (standing at a feeder late last month), now we have to find it!

Picked one up today even after all the wind and snow the last couple days

Way to go lotws! I got a couple last weekend, but haven't been able to get out this week and can't get out this weekend or nest week either frown I hope the big boy I saw holds til I have a chance at him!

Went for 3 hours between classes today in a nice cedar swamp. lots of sign but no antlers. I think at this point any time spent in the woods is basically scouting for sheds

I haven't been down to our property since hunting season, and am thinking about coming down there this weekend for a walk out in the fields and woods with the warmer weather.

How deep is the snow in the Rochester area? Would I need showshoes, or could I get by without them?

Has anyone had any luck finding racks in that area or are they buried?

Thank you for your help!

The areas I walked briefly near Roch were pretty miserable. I could walk right on top for 10 steps, then would cave in and be mid thigh. I only went an hour or so and bailed out with no luck. I recommend snow shoes if you plan to leave the trails at all.

Monday was my worst day of winter fishing on Vermilion in the last 4 years.  Caught only one 14" walleye in nearly 8 hours of fishing.  Missed two other bites and was marking very few fish.  Maybe the fish were taking Monday off after a big weekend.   No more water came up on the ice under my house.  Think it was because I haven't banked snow around it for a couple of weeks so the bare ice around the house is getting very thick.  I measured 38" of ice under my house and the Ion barely made it through even with the extension installed.  Needless to say I banked around the house this time.  Another lesson I learned today is don't drill holes if ice is frozen on your blades.  I did that on one hole and it didn't center properly and drilled at an angle on the edge of the opening.  Hope I can correct the location and angle on my next trip up.   Not much change in the surface lake surface conditions.  The drifts may be a little higher and are definitely harder.  There are still a few bare ice spots on the lake.  Very little activity on the lake today.  There are about 3 dozen houses from McKinley Park out to Birch Island.  Another person pulled there house off today, and I am sure many more will pull theirs off this coming weekend.  Only 13 days left of walleye season.

Great looking food. So far not much of a game and I thought the halftime show was worse I've seen.
