Bought Old Cortland Reel

Cortland has always made a line of economy fly reels and you are now the proud owner of one of them. Nothing wrong with the little reel you have. Don't let the "reel snobs" poke fun at it. You can probably load the reel with backing and a #5 or #6 or maybe #7 line depending on how much backing you put on first.

Worry more about the line weight your ROD is designed for, then load the reel with the proper line. Easy way: wind the fly line on first, starting with the front end; attach the backing and keep cranking till reel is pretty full. You now the the correct amount of backing for the reel and line. Take it all off and reverse the process and you are ready to go.

Nice reel for a buck and if you want to you will be using it ten years from now.

My old Cortland Company pals are smiling down from above at your good fortune.
